Kill it and grind it yourself, my family rarely eats beef burger anymore we always have plenty of deer burger. No pink slime or additives added.

I should have also added it's very healthy for you too.

chains and fast food are 2 completely different things

Well of course they are...

I mean, besides the fast food in BR being chains, they have nothing at all in common with being chains. Nothing whatsoever.

THAT'S just too much fun.

Quick...

List the myriad of fast food joints in BR that aren't chains.

NOW, name a chain, fast food or otherwise and regardless of how it's dressed up and marketed, that doesn't operate around the concept that the food has to taste the same at one location as it does at every other location around the country. IOW, name one that doesn't operate around the business model that McDonalds introduced to this country long ago.

It's chickens pumped with antibotics, hormones to grow bigger, faster

Mother fricking frick

this concept is entirely FALSE.

I cannot speak for other livestock, but the "pumping of hormones" into poultry is prohibited. When you see poultry products labeled as "hormone-free," it is nothing more than marketing and must also be accompanied by fine print stating that use of hormones is entirely prohibited by federal law.

Whether or not it makes you feel any better, the ability of today's chickens to grow bigger, faster is due to decades of intense selective breeding and biological engineering, not some mega chicken-steroid.
Most of today's population, people who are many generations removed from the farm and thus know little to nothing about agricultural practices, simply parrot everything they hear about livestock being "pumped" with hormones and antibiotics. Always the exact same verbage too, "PUMPED."

I'm not meaning this blowup to be directed towards you in particular, it's just something that an inordinate amount of people are incredibly misinformed about

Antibotics are not prohibited....it is legal.

Growth hormones are prohibited and still used.

ABC News has learned the woman who made the decision to OK the mix is a former undersecretary of agriculture, Joann Smith. It was a call that led to hundred of millions of dollars for Beef Products Inc., the makers of pink slime.

When Smith stepped down from the USDA in 1993, BPI’s principal major supplier appointed her to its board of directors, where she made at least $1.2 million over 17 years.

It's called regulatory capture. Look into how Aspartame got approved for human consumption.

Statin drugs? GMO's?

And it's not just the FDA. It's for all intents and purposes our entire government: The best government money can buy!

Welcome to the Checkbook Republic!

If our legistaltors and regulators would just wear sponsor patches like Nascar drivers we'd know who they really represent.

Agreed.

FWIW, I just started grinding my own meat this week, because I got a GREAT deal on a bulk buy of chuck roast. The food processor just didn't cut it though. The consistency is not right, and it doesn't handle the little pieces of connective tissue and fat neatly. I guess it would be okay for chopped steak that had been well trimmed?

I pulled out an old hand grinder my dad used to stuff mirlitons with though, and it worked fantastic. I wasn't sure how to put it together at first, and its kind of small, but I am hooked on grinding my own.

Quats have been used in the foods for a long time and deemed safe. I have am pretty confident that ammonia is no big deal.

That's absurd when you realize just why ammonia has to he introduced to the ground meat in the first place. I know we become desensitized to things as time foes on and just accept it as normal, but that doesn't mean what's been going on in recent human history is normal as it pertains to our food in a very general sense. Putting ammonia in meat because or the conditions the cattle are in prior to being slaughtered, and the conditions of our slaughter houses is not a justification as much as it's a answer to combat a retardation of our food.

Chloride isn't exactly great for you.

Mix it with Sodium, and it works wonders.

I ground a batch with the KA mixer. Half brisket and half chuck. Best burger we ever grilled. I thought I had been buying quality ground beef. Not sure what we've been buying but the home ground was way better.
I'm guessing my grind was 70/30 at best. I've been buying 90/10 yet my grind didn't shrink or put out nearly the volume of drippings.

it doesn't have to be. it's an option chosen by the producer to make it safer against a threat that is easily killed by normal cooking.

the problem isn't the meat plant, it's the USDA due to the pressure from consumer lobbyists that insist that all food must be commercially sterile because the average person isn't responsible enough to cook their own food
