Anyone been yet? I may try it out whenever I have time to get sushi at Wahada. I'd think a cupcake business would do well being near a college campus and being in a heavily visited strip mall with restaurants.

I went for the first time yesterday, it was really good. It feels like a modern version of a 50's soda bar. I spoke to the owner and he said they've been doing well, selling out of all their cupcakes by the end of every day and expanding the number of employees. I'd definitely recommend it.

I'm not huge on the cupcake trend going on. Though I'm sure it's good. The cupcake places seem to have some interesting flavors, which is cool.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm still sad the cleaners went out of business at thy location.

That woman always remembered my name and how I like my slacks.

Sweets are definitely my weakness, so I love cupcakes. Plus the closest cupcake business that I can think of is at the Mall of LA, so it fits into a good niche market by campus. Plus, if I'm going to have a cheat day I'd rather indulge in a cupcake than the melted frozen yogurt served at places like Menchie's .

What is up with the cupcake fad going on? They are popping up all over Charleston. What's wrong with regular cake? Cookies? Brownies? What's so great about cupcakes?

I made it out there late last week. Really dug the lemon cupcake. Had a filling that was great and a little different from the others I've had. My friend had the one with the peanut butter cup on it, and she said it was great. Biggest problem I could see is that parking lot has a tendency to be a huge pain in the arse at peak meal hours. Definitely will make it back over there next time I head towards campus.

I had a wedding cake cupcake from there. It was alright. Nothing special in my book. I will be returning to try more flavors.

My initial problem is their price. $3.50 (after tax) for a single cupcake is crazy. I know the place at the mall sells for that price, but their cupcakes are significantly bigger. Sweet wishes is only $2.50. I think they need to lower prices (they are marketing to college kids here) or make them bigger.

Just my $.02.

The difference between a cookie and a cupcake is the airiness of the latter. The better prt is a bit more confusing, but goes to the nature of the two. Cupcakes are a little bit more accepting of changes in flavor/ingredients that goes in to them, that essence of flavor tends to cook out of a cookie.

I don't really eat sweets, but I prefer a cupcake over cake (I know.. it's the same thing, but I'm weird).

But I completely agree with the confusion about the fad. I think opening up a business with ONE bakery item is very risky long term. It might do great during the fad phase of the item, but that doesn't mean it will do well forever.

Seems like they'd do better being cupcakes "and more"..
The area could use a full bakery anyway.

Sweet Wishes is the only cupcake menu I've seen with a true variety of flavors that are interesting. The place in the mall had like 10 flavors or something like that... and they were kinda boring. Chocolate, vanilla, chocolate-vanilla, banana, etc.

I just looked at the Sweet Wishes website and they have 44 flavors. That's impressive. And they were around way before the fad started.

Variety. You can buy 3 different flavors of cupcakes, but you aren't going to buy 3 different types of cakes to get your fix.

14 bucks for 3 cupcakes, i'm not on the cupcake trend because i think its overpriced and avoid it like the plague but tried it out anyways

they were alright, nothing too fancy

and i dont think they'll be around long, they're targeting the college population which doesnt want to fork out that kind of money for such a small serving, they're prefer to spend the dough on liquor

ETA: had the small lemon one, regular size oreo, and red velvet

red velvet was nothing special
oreo really made me want to drink a gal of milk
lemon one had the most flavor

Eh, I don't know. College kids are also a large group of people who often have Mom and Dad paying for essentials. Look at how successful the frozen yogurt spots are.. or COFFEE! There is a line to the door at every coffee shop on campus for students to get their $5 blended shite daily.

Agreed that they should sell other items as well. The closest 'bakery' to campus is the Truely Free one and their market is aimed at vegans, gluten free, dieters, etc. rather than college kids. I think they should start selling cookies, brownies, hell you'd probably have a lot of student clubs and sororities want to buy their goods for social events. They could really be a big hit. I'd say they'd make more even if they started making glazed donuts.

you'd get about 13 cupcakes for $50, you dont find that high for them to pay? and they'd need way more than 13 for an event

A lot of those frozen blended drinks don't even contain much coffee.. if any. My point was that they can easily make a pot of coffee in their room or order a $1 cup of plain coffee, but they get $5 frozen things all the time. While I agree that the cupcake shop is a fad that will likely die out, I think college students are MORE likely to spent $3 on a cupcake .. because they can.
