Lake D'Arbonne Bass Fishing

Going to head there for the first time in two weeks. Since I haven't launched or been on the water there I was looking for some for general advice on where to go and strategies to catch bass.
To start I have a 14' slim flat with a 20hp motor and trolling motor. Since the boat is light I can usually get into skinny water without trouble and it also allows me to navigate through the trees with relative ease.
From looking at Google maps the lake has 4 main sections. North arm, West arm, small South arm, and the East arm.
Since I will be heading out on a Saturday i can only imagine that there will be a lot of boats on the water.
For now i am trying to decide on where to concentrate my fishing between the North or West arms of the lake. They both appear to get swampy and full of trees as you get further and further back. The North arm appears to have a bayou that also runs a little ways up, and the West arm looks to have some channels and ponds forming as it comes to an end.
For Fishing strategy I was going to basically run to the back of either the north or west arm and look for structure/vegetation near shore and start to work it with a combo of spinner baits/cranks and jigs/plastics. With two guys fishing we can diversify our strategy to see what is working.
Anyone have any general advice for a first timer on this lake? As of now I am thinking of launching off Hwy 2 and running into the West arm to wiggle back into the far reaches of that area.
Can you launch in the State Park on the west side south of hwy 2?
any advice is appreciated.

That's about all I can tell you if your good enough of a fisherman and they are biting you will catch fish.

HWY 2 is a long run to what your calling the west arm. I assume your talking about D'Arbonne creek. You can put in on the upper end at a place called Gil's ferry. Go down the creek a couple 100yrds turn left and start fishing.
Now naturally I'm not gonna tell my spots on here but just go back as far as you can go in the sloughs.

Thanks, that is what i was looking for, just general advice.
What road can I take to get to Gil's Ferry and where is it?
Looking at the map and i see several roads in that area: Willie Reeves, Haynes, Abercrombie, Platts Landing, Sam Rodgers, etc.
Yeah i was thinking it would be a long run so launching closer would be preferred.

I can't remember the road names off the top of my head but later tonight I'll see if I can look it up on google maps.

Nice, i would be interested in seeing where the launch is located since I am planning on running into the smaller waters and it would be nice to spend more time fishing than running around.
I called the state park and as you would expect they have a boat launch there so that is a preferred option to the hwy 2 run. ($1 per person to enter the park)

If I remember correctly the banks have somewhat of a sandy bottom. If you have clear water and the timing is right you should be able to sight fish pretty good

There is a ramp at Stowe creek. I would put in there and concentrate on fishing Stowe Creek. Won't have to do much running at all. And it is one of the better places on the lake to catch spawning basses. Also a great spot to jerk some perch this time of year...

There are boat ramps all over the lake. They arent hard to find, usually have signs on main roads.

this is good advice for the OP to follow as a start.

Thanks, I think i may have finally found Gils Ferry after digging on google maps a little longer. It appears to be the exact area i wanted to target after looking at the aerial view.

i like to chunk beetle spins and sip Frescas, while floating down the Mighty De Loutre.

You may want to take a jig pole with ya. That lake has some big sac-a-perch in it.

I don't have a jigging pole but i may rig one of my lighter rods up with a cork/tube just for fun.

Additional question:
How deep is the water on the far west end of the lake? (from State Park to the 'creeks')

I aways see people fishing around the HWY 15 bridge for White Perch, Sac-a-lait and Crappie.

I don't fish D'Arbonne Creek (the west arm) much, but between the State Park and the main lake, the channel is around 25 feet deep, maybe a little deeper, with running up to flats around 6-10 feet deep with a few coves that are 3-4 feet deep. I'm sure the area that you're talking about is pretty shallow, but I haven't been up that far in too long to remember the depths. Also, prepare to lose a lot of baits.

No worries about losing baits, I tend to be an expert on this subject. If you ever need to learn how to put a buzzbait 25' up a cypress tree just let me know and i can send you instructions.
Which arm do you normally fish?
I only chose this arm since I am much more familiar with fishing shallow water and i anticipate the spawn being active?

I use to spend alot of time in what I assume your calling the north end. A large pocket not too far east of the bridge.
