Late 20's, Econ degree from LSU, married, no kids, live in NOLA, various work experience. Worried about the future of the company I work for currently, and open to trying something different.

Move to ND and work for Marathon, Nabors or Haliburton.

I'm really open to just about anything. I am willing to move if the opporunity is right. Wife's in a very high demand field and could pretty much get a job anywhere.

I've excelled at both careers I've tried out of school. Just haven't found what I want to do till retirement.

Im guessing poker is not one you did well enough?

Just kidding.

But seriously, what is your background with previous two companies?

I graduated in 07 when nobody was hiring and I desperately wanted out of BR. Was offered a claims adjuster position with one of the big insurance companies. The only positive I found there was excellent training in insurance rules and regulations, also great formal customer service training. It wasn't a bad company to work for, just pretty soul crushing to basically feel like you're running on a hampster wheel every day of your life. I completed the year long training program at the top of the "class" of about 30 adjusters and was offered a pretty decent raise. However, I decided to go a completely different direction and took a position as an assistant project manager for a small, high- end residential construction company. 8 months in, coming from 0 construction background, I was promoted to project manager and I'm now running NOLA operations.

I'm in a similar boat with a meteorology degree

late 20's, meteorology degree from Valpo and 4 years experience, engaged, no kids, live in Slidell but would like to move to a real city. Would like to stay in meteorology or a related field but I'm not getting any bites for interviews.

I just got turned down on an entry level job in Houston. I didn't even get an interview, so needless to say I'm pretty disappointed.

I'm looking too. Hard to find anyone willing to train anyone right now. Seems everyone wants experienced or senior positions.

I had the same job since I graduated in 2007 but want to get the hell out of my industry. Can't even get any bites anywhere. I think most of the online job postings are BS anyway.

I understand that they get several hundred applications and that they have to sift through them all, but why even post it online if they aren't going to take the online applications seriously? I applied for several that, in my opinion, I would've been an ideal candidate for. No correspondence.

I'm a hard worker and pretty quick learner, but I'm not a good BSer like you suggest I should be. Maybe that is my problem. I know I do well in interviews, but I'm just not the off the cuff type that will pop into someone's office and BS my way into an interview. I guess it's just not my style.

Use your construction background to get on with a larger construction company in cost. You can do fairly well, and really well if your willing to travel for extended periods of time.

I've thought about that, I like a lot of things about construction but I think I would like a different type of construction/market than what I'm currently involved in. I know a certain amount of stress comes with most decent positions given the responsibilty, but the level of stress I'm dealing with now is far from offset by the amount of money I'm making. At my current pace I feel like I'm gonna to stroke out by 35.
