This guy was awesome in Louisiana. Anyone know if he was offered a scholarship to LSU? He is playing at Murray State and is the 6th man and playing pretty well from what I hear.

He may look good, but you never know how that can translate in major conference play game in and game out.

And it looks like there was hardly any news on him.

I saw him play several times. He was a good player and could definitely score the ball. I don't think he was worthy of an SEC offer though.

There's like three of those playing for LSU right now.

Wouldn't hurt. He's leading in assists and scores a good bit for one of top teams in the nations. (Yes I know they play in a bad conference, but at least they make it to the tournament)

his highlight tape is impressive. that was just he impression I got when I saw him play in HS. I'm sure he has gotten better.

Dam he looked good in the highlight video.

He was extremely advanced fundamentally for a high schooler from what I picked up from it. Probably why he is playing 18 minutes a game for the #12 ranked team in the country as a freshmen. Might not have looked the part for LSU coming out of high school but some other mid level colleges might have missed on this kid.

I don't think he can hang in the SEC. Sure he is playing well there but I saw him numerous times throughout his career and he didn't always stand out.

he has incredible speed. in the past 10 days, he has calmed the frick down and got used to playing with the spot light on (since the team was undefeated and getting all the other teams best shot every night).

He was recruited by Billy Kennedy, who used to coach in south Louisiana. That's over for Murray. Kennedy is at TAMU now.

The new Murray guy Steve Prohm is a Bama grad. I keep thinking we will see Prohm at Bama in a year or three.
Murray's next class is nothing special, two 3 stars and 2 two stars. If Canaan goes pro, your guy Zay will be the starting point guard. HE IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME.

He's a 5-11 point guard in the same class as Anthony Hickey. Which one would you prefer?

He was unranked and picked Murray State over Tulane and ULL.

notice that Zay Jackson's 3 point shooting numbers SUCK.

he's just VERY fast. he needs to work on his game. There are two upperclass post men on his team who are better 3 point shooters.

If any players were coming out of St. Thomas Aquinas, Kennedy was gonna get them. Kennedy brought slu to the tourny in 05. Saw this kid play last year, very good ball handler and facilitator.

better now than at the beginning of the season.

which makes sense, since he's a rookie.

at the beginning of the year he was getting pulled early after throwing the ball away trying too hard to get it into the post.

what's neat for him is that he has been on the floor in tandem with Canaan, with Zay at point and Canaan as the designated gunner. Prohm has been putting Zay on the floor when it counts the past few games and Zay has usually been up to it.

So.. no he was not nearly ready for the SEC when the season started, and he still is NOT. But he may be, next year or in a few games. he's improving as things go along. one always hopes for that, from one's younger guys.

When the starting power forward went out with a broken hand, I was hoping that the back up center a 6 10 soph Garret would grow into his role, but he didnt do jack shite (he still rushes his shot even when he has a virtual layup). No, It was ZAY Jackson who stepped up and got more playing time.

This goes to the issues regarding development and how long you are willing to wait for improvement.
Murray's starters are THREE seniors and TWO juniors.

Would LSU fans be cool with waiting until Zay Jackson is a junior before they expect to see SEC level guard play from him.
My guess is that Zay Jackson will fall fricking apart after Canaan goes to the pros next year and Zay will get his arse dominated by OOC starters the first 10 games next year in OOC play, and hopefully Zay Jackson will re-appear in his junior year as the real deal. "Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you". Murray has signed two more guards for 2013.

You are wrong. You were right about his 3pt shooting, but he has cooled off and shoots high percentage shots. I've seen him play a lot. Like a lot. He is making an impact and will be even more of a factor later. He takes over games and will get better and better

yes. but Prohm recruited some. Prohm has been Kennedy's man since they were coaching in Louisiana. Prohm was assist. at SE La when they went to the NCAAs.

Murray St. has also signed Neville's 6'8" center Zay Henderson.

The Tigers play Peabody in the 4A semis on Saturday.

Murray State Basketball Signs Zay Henderson & Erik McCree
11/9/2011 4:41:00 PM

Steve Prohm
Murray State men's basketball coach Steve Prohm announced the signing of Zabius “Zay” Henderson (Monroe, La.) and Erik McCree (Winter Garden, Fla.).

The pair begin the 2012 signing class for the Racers as both will be freshman in the fall at Murray State.

ZAY HENDERSON – NEVILLE HS – MONROE, LA.
Zay Henderson (6-8, 225) is a forward from Neville High School in Monroe, La.

Last season as a junior in 2010-11, he averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds, three blocks per game in leading the Tigers to the Louisiana Class 4A State Tournament and a 28-5 record.

Henderson was named Louisiana Class 4A All-District II.

As a sophomore in 2009-10, he was part of an outstanding team at Neville that was 28-11.

“Zay comes from a great program and from a basketball-rich area in Monroe, La.,” Prohm said. “With Ivan Aska part of our senior class this season, we were looking for a quality front-court player to come in and contribute immediately. Zay will have the chance to step in and contribute on both ends of the court. He plays hard and will continue to get better.”
Henderson's coach is Phillp Craig.

“Zay has been a huge part of the success we've had over the last two seasons,” Craig said. “He's a great shot blocker and the best thing that I can say about Zay as a player, is he's very consistent. He comes to work hard every day. His best days are ahead of him, he has a lot of potential and we're excited he's getting this opportunity at Murray State.”

Henderson played AAU basketball for the Jackson Tigers out of Jackson, Miss.

1. yep. for a few minutes, the past few games

2. I hope so.

When he eliminates mistakes based on rushing, he will qualify as a guy to make the LSU fans think they missed out on something.
right now, not quite. Not only is he not ready for the SEC, he is not even ready for the OVC. He is not starting. his DOMINATION that you observe is coming against the other teams BENCH.

note his 3 pt field goal percentage is now at .255 after improving.

His 3 point shooting STINKS.

If he's at Murray St I'm just curious why it matters if LSU offered a scholarship?
