Or how Nash has two. Quite frankly, I completely agree. LINK Nash has been great, but if he has two you gotta give Shaq four.

He was a crushing force up until the finals against Dallas. He certainly earned more than one MVP in his career. When Shaq showed up in Miami in 2004-05 they won 59 games. The year before they won 42. Shaq was worth 17 games. I think he has a legit beef. Probably should have won every year from 99-04.

Boat Diesel doesn't get why LSU never made a sweet 16 with Shaq Diesel.

Was thinking the same the other day. Crazy that Shaq only has one MVP.

ETA: His comments on the Kings are phenomenal.

Me too, though my theories have always been he struggled to defend without fouling while he was officiated brutally. He would get beat up and got no protection when he was playing defense. A lot like what happened during his NBA career. Geiger breaks his hand, he is called for traveling. It is tough being a mutant, they penalize you.

Nash's first should go to Shaq. Made his new team 17 games better. Highest shooting percentage double-double machine.

A couple of the times Shaq finished second were real head-scratchers IMO.

Shaq has an MVP!

99-04 They always described him as the most dominate player but the powers that be are more likely to hand the hardware to a scoring champion.

it is what it is.

Why yes he does! What exactly are you getting at, chief?

ETA: Maybe AI will sell him the one that he had no business winning over Shaq in 2000. Retroactively fix that glaring error and get AI some cash. Win/win?

it is sort of a NBA tradition to give the MVP to the best player story of the year instead of the best player in the league

at least that is what it looks like when you MJ had so few MVPs and clearly was the best player in basketball for a decade

More because the rules in CBB changed to favor guards, primarily the 3 point line. Notice no other big man teams made it to the FF after 1985.

ETA: also Shaq's last year, the NCAA gave us a shitty seed and a 2nd round matchup vs Indiana because they hated Dale.

FR YEAR
.lost to GT led by Kenny Anderson and Denis Scott. Damn good team who made it to the final four b/f losing to a pretty good UNLV team who won it all. We were a 5 seed, they were a 4. Shaq put up 19 and 14. Shot 5/10 from field and 9/12 from FT line.
Chris Jackson was sick that game and had only 13 pts on 5 for 15 shooting. Foul trouble didnt hurt, we played with 6 fouls in SEC play that yr and had lots of guys get 4 early. We lost by 3, but were up by 19 to start the game. Chris Jackson fouled out with 2min to go.

SOPH
-lost to UcONN in 1st rd. They would go on to lose to NC Duke. Shaq was 11/22 with 27pts and 16 reb. he was 5/6 from FT line. Nobody else scored more than 7 pts. Shaq had not played for 2 weeks from a hairline fracture in his knee--he missed the sec tourney. Shaq got his 4th foul with 11min to go in game, though. we shot 32% from the field. 23% if you exclude shaq's 9 dunks. TJ Pugh, Mike Hansen, Vernel Singleton, Shawn Griggs, Harold Boudreaux were not a collection of studs.

JR
-lost to Calbert Cheaney and Alan Hendersons Indiana in 2nd round. They were a 2 seed, we were a 7-seed. Shaq had 38 and 12. was 12/18 from the field and 12/12 fromt he line! Indiana lost to NC Duke in final four.

as far as the SEC, the teams who had higher seeds than us in the tourney those years were

FR
4-ark (lost in NC game to duke. todd day, oliver miller, lee mayberry team).

SO
1-ark (lost to NCG loser kansas in elite 8. same main guys)
4-alabama (lost to ark in sweet 16. robert horry and latrell sprewell)
5-miss st

JR
2-kentucky (lost to duke in elite 8. pelphrey, /travis ford, mashbrown team).
3-ark (2nd rd loss to penny hardaways memphis. same core guys0
5-bama (same core, lost in 2nd rd to NC team who would wni it all the next yr. phelps, lynch, montross.

Nash should have won 3. But a bunch of ex-players got together and campaigned against him because they didn't want a little white guy to tie Magic.

That's complete bullshite that the big man only finished with 1 MVP. Then again Kobe only has 1 MVP as well.

What?

He won 5 MVPs in 11 years ('88-'98), and he didn't even play in two of those seasons. Only one person won it more (Kareem), and one other had 5 (Russell).
