Coach - Did you like it? Would it be as successful today?
Posted by BordyLSU on 2/26/12 at 7:57 am00
I was doing yard work yesterday and kept thinking of the TV Show, Coach (1989 - 1997). I recall watcing several episodes and enjoying them.
To run for 9 seasons, this must have been quite a success. I find this interesting since it seemed to be nearly entirely about the personal side of Coach Hayden Fox, instead of football.
With the explosion of HBO and ESPN shows that take you inside the football operations of NFL and major NCAA teams; Do you feel there is a market interested in a coaches personal life? That is to say, when they aren't working 18 hours a day.

Why not?
Sports is bigger than ever. HBO would probably make the language and situations grittier.

I think it would do way better today than it did back then and it was already a very successful and often watched show.
It was really hitting it's stride just before Hayden went to coach the Orlando Breakers. I wish they'd kept it CFB for the last few seasons.

Such as having the Coach cheat with the sultry sideline reporter?

I couldn't see that show, with that cast on HBO. but maybe on FX.

No question. Other than the Hayden/Christine drama, Coach was comic gold. Luther, Dauber and the rest of the supporting cast made this show. Nothing against Craig T. Nelson.

Keeping it real. Luther was reason it went that long.

I remember the episode LSU beat them and Coach was pissed because they got beat by such a crappy team
Hayden Fox hates LSU.
I think it was the first game of the season after they had won the national championship.
