How the F**K did I miss this? I feel like a complete failure. Geert Hammink has a son named Shane, born in Baton Rouge in 1994 while Geert was with the Orlando Magic. He is a 6-6 guard and one of the top young players in Europe. He plays for the Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain, which is like Findlay Prep for Europeans. They are loaded and he is one of their best players.

LSU, along with Miami and Iowa, are on him as of now. Here are a few links. There are also some Youtube clips, but I can't link those from work. If anyone wants to add some.

2012 National Prep School Invitational

quote:

Shane Hammink (Canarias Basketball Academy 2012) – Hammink nearly made his way into my recap with his strong play on Friday and after another standout performance Saturday left me no choice but to include him. The 6’5” lefty combo guard does his best work getting in the lane and facilitating for others in either screen or roll sets or by breaking his man down off the dribble. He is strong enough to finish through contact at the rim and also showed off a solid stroke from the 3 point line. A relative unknown in the states, Hammink looks the part of a high major guard who can help out at both back court spots.

quote:

Shane Hammink (Canarias Basketball Academy 2012) – Originally from Louisiana where his dad played college basketball at LSU, Hammink has been playing overseas with CBA. He currently holds offers from LSU, Miami, Northeastern, and Iowa. Coaches from LSU, Miami, and Northeastern have all been on hand this week to watch Hammink.

With Hammink in this class and David Taylor in next year's, Dale Brown's recruiting is still paying off. If only Shaq had chosen a more athletic mate.

I can't even tell you how excited I would be for him to come. All about TJ landing sons of Dale players cause Shaq has a son who is already HUGE in middle school.

Also looks like he can play the 1 a little so could be the answer to who backs up Hickey next year.

Now I am even more intrigued with what this class will look like come April.

In researching this, an interesting note I discovered is that Geert Hamminck is an agent representing European basketball players.

for the life of me I can't understand why we have not recruited, or successfuly recruited, europe and south america. usually these kids are fundamentaly sound when they step on campus so it can be a fast track for rebuilding programs plus the student body holds them close. was lloreda sp? our last quality import?

Singular? Maybe I misread some previous statements on this topic.

Shaq's Son

From 2009, not finding much other info looks to play on an AAU team in Florida.

I don't know why, but when I think of Shaq's kid, I picture Renardo Sidney.
