I don't see this shite happening. That would be a slap in the face to Drew and he made it clear he won't sign it (I think he would sign it). I still think we pay the man what he deserves and lock up a multi year contract.

Warning: Meltdown imminent.

If this happens I might literally cry. I also assume someone will have a damn good reason for letting it happen. And it better be made public. That said. A Saint he is now and a Saint he shall ever be. No where but New Orleans is the home for Drew Brees.

Y'all should be a bit worried. He most def retires a Saint, but losing the franchise tag would be huge. If he wants to get as much money as possible, that's fine, but if he gets franchised than he looks like an idiot for going on about "no worries on extending and keeping key role players" earlier in the offseason.

If you are talking about the little round table they had tonight about the top 5 players to franchise, then you are wrong that John Clayton said he "expects" Brees to be franchised.

So everybody calm down.

Sportscenter said "John Clayton expects the following players to be franchised: Drew Brees, he also listed Mario Williams." It was not on the "round table discussion"

-being franchised is not a slap in the face, plenty of premier players have been tagged as an interim move while a deal is completed

-as noted the bigger issue would be not having the tag available for Colston or Nicks if need be

-my gawd it is John Clayton. Don't you guys know his track record. The prototypical espn-tmz talking head that spews speculation and opinion. I value the opinions of some posters here more than his.

-I expect rain tomorrow

I'm not even a little worried about keeping Brees, he'll retire in New Orleans. I am however worried about keeping Nicks/Colston and if we franchise Brees, those chances decrease significantly.

I disagree. If the face of your franchise has come out and stated he does not want to be franchised, then it is a slap in the face. Once the tag is used he can walk next year and we get nothing for him. I do agree that Clayton is probably reaching and Drew will be signed long term.

When Bush was drafted, Clayton was on ESPN saying Bush was a lock to sit out the year and re-enter the draft. The next day he signed with the Saints.

Clayton is a moron.
