Who knows. Hopefully.

This is more of a thread for after a loss than after a win. Just enjoy our wins when we get them.

No, but then again LSU has never really been an "elite" program with the exception of the middle years under Dale Brown... I mean we have one "national championship" and a handful of Final Fours... Now go look at the true elite programs (Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Cuse, etc.) and compare. Not sure LSU will ever be on that level

I am enjoying the win. I like trent, but no sure if he takes the program to level it once was and can be.

Only if he gets elite talent and I just think he's shown he can do that here.

The way Trent coaches, LSU is not going to overachieve. His system is simple and basic, which I don't have a problem with in and of itself.

But when your talent level isn't up there with the upper half of even your own conference, that's not gonna beat the teams that are better than us.

And I like what the dude stands for but I like what alot of folks stand for. At some point I want my team to win consistently in hoops at a clip that is reasonable here. I just don't think that Trent can.

Oh, and I'd love for him to prove me wrong.

I agree, They return this entire starting 5 next year plus add Morgan (a legit shooter) and hopefully add a big man and a PG (or just another guard really).

I don't think LSU will ever be an elite program, period. Past history would indicate this. It's been a very good program in it's history, but never consistently in the upper stratosphere of the Dukes, UCLAs, Kentuckys of the basketball world.

I agree 7218. Gotta get at least one big and a PG to back up Hickey.

It's not the guys you lose (see Gathers) that kill you. It's the guys you get that can't play.

Trent has shot his wad on getting kids that can't play.

He needs to fill the Gathers gap with someone who can. Tiger Rag listed a couple of JUCO's we're recruiting that have a pretty impressive list of suitors in pursuit. If we can land one I think we'll have one who can play.

Then we have to land a PG. We got Hickey late last year. Hopefully, we can get another.

I'm already sold on Morgan. If Trent can finish strong in recruiting, like he did last year, he helps himself and our program enourmously and all the angst over Gathers could hopefully be forgotten.

I agree about next year. The year after is still to be determined by what kind of bigs Trent gets in this class(also if JOB gets an itch to go pro).

LSU was never elite, but was consistently good for a very long stretch.

Of course, it took Dale Brown the better part of a decade to get it there.

Seems like a large part of the fanbase have neither the patience, nor attention span to wait that long.

Same, haven't seen much of him, but from what I have, he can flat out shoot the rock (which is huge for this team, as I'm sure you are aware).

I know TJ gets a lot of criticism for his recruiting (and rightfully so), but I think there are indications that he's starting to turn it around. People have to remember that most of the top basketball recruits are recruited for years (like 8th grade in some cases), so these coaches build a relationship with them over years, which obviously takes time. Maybe we are starting to see those relationships pay off for TJ now?

Yes, I think some of us have a liberal notion of elite.

I'm old enough to remember Dale's early years. I started watching his second year, which was pretty bad. His 3rd and fourth years were even worse and his fifth year we scratched above .500 but were still under .500 in a pretty weak SEC.

His sixth year we finally starte to build toward someting and in his 7th year Dale made his first post-season tournament.

So, even in getting to that consistently good level it took some some time and patience, which is not something that exists in big time college athletics these days.

They will never be an elite program. Maybe have a decent stretch but basketball will never sustain support enough to be considered an elite program.

If Florida can become "elite" ... Don't see why LSU can't. The OP is not asking whether we can once again be an elite basketball program. With that being said... I don't think Trent is that guy.
