Felt like this needed to be posted so everyone could stop trying to discuss losing Colston, Nicks, & Graham. He's not going anywhere.

I'd like to see him get a contract extension now than later. If he gets another 1000 yard season, he's guaranteed to be one of the 2 top paid TE's in the NFL.

that the Saints could get away with underpaying Jimmy Graham like they did Colston?

I understand that we can extend him, which would be great for everyone involved, but he isn't going anywhere yet. They would have to get all of the other FA issues taken care of before doing this. It's just that so many people think that he'll hold out or walk. I personally don't think he would do the first and can't do the second thing. People on here are acting like he's a FA and can just walk out the door if we don't pay him right now.

We gave Colston an extension BEFORE his contract ran out. Saints still had much leverage in doing it this way with Colston because he was under contract for another year and a RFA season after that. Saints gave him a modest bridge contract that was still undervalued for the open market but helped Colston make some real $ in the meantime till he hit FA a few years later.

If we do this with Jimmy, Saints will have much leverage in not needing to pay him top dollar for TE and saints have the benefit of locking him up longer and Jimmy has the benefit of not getting paid pennies over the next two seasons.

Yep, time to do it is before jimmy's contract come up. Not now but like other poster said, once this year's class of FA is taken care of, if we have some extra $ to spend or maybe first thing next offseason.

I don't think anyone thinks this. He stays humble, still seems enamored about being a go-to guy for Drew Brees, and appears grateful for where he is at right now. My fear is that he's gonna blow away his numbers from this past season and this will make his value go through the roof. He made quite a few mistakes in his second year and I can see him take another big leap in his game next season. I feel he will be better than Gronkowski.

I'm pretty sure he's gonna be a top 2 paid TE considering he is a top 2 TE

I give Gronk a very very slight edge due to his blocking ability. But with a full offseason and training camp we may see the goalposts come down in the Superdome this year due to so many TD Slam-Dunks.

He's top 2 for the 2011 season. Many can argue that Gates, Witten, Clark, and Davis are better due to a larger sample size.

I am thinking the same but there isn't enough evidence to support this. I would, however, make the claim that defenses have to account for Hernandez and Welker as big play threats. Gronk did have the best season in NFL history for TE's though.

Jimmy has a little bit more development to go which is a big thing for us. He's proved to be exceptional for us, he's come a long way in the consistency department but maybe he can come a little bit further there.

Let's say Graham ups his production by about 10% across the board this coming season. That would put him at about 110 receptions, 1450 yards, and 13 TD's. I can hear the brinks truck backing up right now.

I give that a 7.5% chance of happening.

A player's third year in the league is supposed to be the breakout year. I figure 10% is a pretty modest increase if he were to "breakout" even further.
