Eli vs. Brady Career Comparisons (through this point in Eli's Career)

Brady vs. Eli's first 6 full seasons of playing time
Brady = 147 TDs, 21,558 yards
Eli = 146 TDs, 21,603 yards
After their first 7 total seasons (includes first year)
Brady = 147 TDs, 21,564 yards
Eli = 152 TDs, 22,646 yards
Both reached their first 4000 yard season in their sixth season.
Both didn't have their first elite season until their eighth season.
Both have 2 superbowl MVPs after 8 seasons.
Eli is closer to Tom Brady at the same point in their careers than people want to admit. If Eli is not elite now, then what was Brady before 2007?

So brady went a full year without a ttouchdown? Or are you counting the year he was injured as his 7th?

I forget who I am dealing with
First 7 seasons = rookie year with limited time of field
First 6 full seasons = excludes very first year
ETA I did the math in my head feel free to double check

now as to the corrected stats, those are impressive numbers. didn't realize eli was doing as well as he is. with another super bowl win, and maybe a few more 4,000-5,000 yard seasons, he will be in the HOF one day.

Brady was considered elite earlier than Eli because then it was basically Peyton... everybody else. Brady established himself as the next best thing to Peyton and thus thrust himself into elite status. He solidified it with his '07 season.
Maybe Eli will get there in the next few years but right now he's still not on the level of Rodgers/Brees/Brady. And if elite means the best of the best, there is still a gap between the top three and Eli right now.

I was just pointing out the similarities of their career arcs, in a sense. It's not that Eli has been lighting it up as much as Brady may have been slightly overrated going into his eighth season. If Eli isn't ELITE now, then Brady was?

In regards to the topic, I too, did not realize Eli's status were on par with Brady's.
However, Eli is still 1 ring behind Brady. And 3 super bowl appearances behind Brady.
I don't think superbowls should determine everything. However, with stats so similar, that can be the tiebreaker IMO.

I agree. But the head to head in the Super Bowls should play a small role at that point.

Eli is at Elite status right now, if you consider the fact that out of 32 teams, only three would not trade for him. Maybe four. Carolina may wait Cam out before making that claim.

Yep, but Tom made major improvements (after already being good). 2007 Brady was the second best season of a QB I have ever seen (2004 Manning is first). Eli is really good, but he is not at Brady's recent averages.

That was in season 8, and granted Brady's was better (let's also remember Eli beat him that year in the Super Bowl). Also, Brady didn't even play in season 9 so let's wait and see what Eli does in his ninth season.
That brings me to an interesting observation. Eli beat Brady in the Super Bowl during Brady's career year and Eli beat Brady in the Super Bowl during his own career year.
