Holy cow, I just flew da choppa!!!! (BF3)

Just finished the second co-op mission, and after about 4 or 5 times of crashing into the mountain, I finally was able to somewhat get the hang of it, and at the end of the mission, I was actually able to get some decent strafing runs. Tons of fun.
For you helicopter pros, which view do you prefer? At first, I tried out 3rd person thinking it was easier to know exactly where I was. But towards the end, I was able to maneuver better in first person.

I'm on PC, by the way, and we just ran into a glitch on the Exfiltration mission. We are being told to man the gunner seat in the hummers, but no dice. I read a few places where you have to be at a certain spot at a certain angle in order to get it to activate, but so far nothing.
Anyone else figure out what to do, other than restart?
ETA And why doesn't this game believe in checkpoints?

A good heli pilot goes in and out of 3rd & 1st person.

You will get destroyed on PC if you try to fly the helicopters. I prefer first person, there really isn't a reason to go third person unless you are in a jet.

More people with SOFLAM's and Javelins to shoot you down before you can even tilt the nose forward to go.

I don't find many games to be difficult but trying to get kills in a jet can be. Especially when the other jet spots you first.

I mainly use first person. I have a much better feel of the handling. While I'm sure third person has its benefits, I can't think of them.

Only thing I can think of is being able to see more of what's going on around you. 1st person primarily, but switch out to get a quick view of what's around you.

I enjoy flying helos, and I play on PC. I'm not a pro but I'm not bad. You have to use buildings and the landscape as cover as much as possible for those, and flares help a lot. I have a bigger problem with jets shooting me down than ground to air fire.
And I usually stay in 1st person view.

I just recently became pretty good with the helicopter (xbox 360). I use third person to maneuver and turn around and first if to shoot and if I'm just flying forward backward.

I remember from the earlier ones attempting to fly it with the keyboard. It was insane. My talked me into getting a flight stick. Ownage ensued.

I feel like the ECM jammer would be helpful on PC as well
