considering a 9-7 team just won the super bowl,is it really a better measure of the best team?

Yes, because a playoff is the best way to determine a champion.

Did you think Wimbeldon sucked when Becker won the first time?

yes by far. a good team got into a tournament and proved on the field against the best competition that they were the champ.

I prefer the BCS. Lots of shitty teams in the Super Bowl lately (NYG the last two times, Cardinals a few years ago, and Steelers)

No it is not. This makes the regular season irrelevant. The Giants won 10 games last year and didn't make it to the playoffs. Because their division sucked, they got in the playoffs with nine wins, right as they were getting healthy. If the Saints could've just pulled off that game in SF, who knows?

No, it's just the NFL's way of crowning a champ. It allows for a decent team to put it together when it matters most.

In college, you get 2 teams who have put it together for a whole season, but you often have to leave teams out. If college would go to a 4 team playoff, that system would be the best , IMO.

It's actually the worst. The best way it to have a full league round robin. A playoff is the most exciting way to determine a champion, but it isn't the best.

The NFL has too many playoff teams just like the NBA, NHL and MLB. It's about making money, not who's the best team. The playoffs should be only 4 teams. In all sports, only the 4 teams with the best record should make the playoffs. Then the regular season wouldn't be a joke, which is what it's become, sadly.

Playoffs give you the best championship game because it gives you the hottest teams, not necessarily more qualified. You have to decide if you like better games, or better regular season teams and worse games.

Saints win the super bowl if we don't blow it in the regular season

Well they finished 13-7 in reality. The NFL playoff system has always been solid in my opinion. Seems like the recent blunders of the BCS has some yahoos complaining about the NFL

At least the Giants had to win their division to make the playoffs. And if they did make it as a wild card, they would've had to win three road games in order to make the title game instead of just being put in the title game.

Or if they don't let the only offensive weapon the 49ers had to beat them twice in 3 plays.

But, yea, you're right. If the Saints beat the Rams, they get the 49ers at home, and most likely win that game going away. The NFL regular season isn't as meaningful as college, but it's far more meaningful than the NBA.

It used to be. Up until 1997, only one WC team won the Super Bowl. That was the 1980 Raiders. We've had five WC teams win the Super Bowl since then. Up until 2001, there were only two teams that won the Super Bowl with five or more losses. They were the 1980 Raiders and 1988 49ers. We've had four teams with five or more losses win the Super Bowl since 2001. So the quality of the champions have definitely gotten worse but it's not due to the playoff format which has been in place for many years. It's due to salary cap which has increased parity throughout the league. If you don't want any 9-7 teams winning the Super Bowl, you should be a proponent of getting rid of the salary cap rather than changing the playoff format.
