This is awesome. Maryland has one of the best programs in the country. And info on this kid? I assumed his last name is Reed and he played at Dutchtown.

from The Advocate:
Dutchtown senior Ryan Reid signed with Atlantic Coast Conference soccer power Maryland after leading the Griffins to the Class 5A semifinals and earning All-Metro MVP honors as a junior. Reid, the younger brother of LSU football player Eric Reid, scored 18 goals and distributed 13 assists last year.
Reid joins a Maryland program that has won four ACC titles and made six College Cup appearances during coach Sasho Cirovski’s 19 seasons. The Terps won national titles in 2005 and 2008.

Looks like he'll join Jesuit product Patrick Mullins at Maryland. Wish LSU was an option for these guys. Maybe one day we'll get a men's team.

In my History of Collegiate Athletics class, I got the chance to ask Joe Alleva if he thought that soccer ever had a chance of coming back in the SEC, especially in light of Title IX. He said that wrestling and soccer were the two biggest casualties of Title IX, and that no, never.
I know people who've played with Mullins, and they all say he was pretty legit. He played with some of the US-Youth teams and missed the state final one year because he was in South America somewhere.

One of my friends used to play select with Eric and he said he was pretty damn good. Hopefully he made the right decision for sports though.

At what level? Just curious.

I am curious about Reid and how he got the offer. The last two Maryland recruits were both on the national stage (Mullins and Jason Garey who set the national scoring record)

This is pretty old news
But I posted this in the OT, Ryan is a stud player. He is probably as fast as Eric with has superb ball skills and finishing. He plays for BRSC, a year below me, and his team has won state probably the last 4 or 5 years straight, and have been competing for the best team in the region every year (I know they were the best team in the region 3 years ago).

That's funny, I asked Joe the same question randomly in an interview, and he said men's soccer is the first sport he'll add if given the chance; then added that chance is very slim, but that should one of the lesser men's sports drop, he'll do it; he said men's soccer is actually the most in-demand sport here outside of the big 3

Alleva is a soccer fan. His daughter was a walk-on for the women's team my freshman year.
ACC soccer is very strong. Outside of Akron, Indiana, and a few west coast schools, all of the powers are there. UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson, and Maryland are all very legit squads. Maurice Edu, Omar Gonzalez, AJ De la Garza, Graham Zuzi, and the legendary Robbie Rogers all played at Maryland.

Louisiana produces some pretty good instate players. I think LSU could be a consistent top 25 team if they had one because most of the players that have gone elsewhere for soccer wanted to go to lsu.
How good do y'all think lsu's progam could be if they had a team? Recruiting out of the southeast would be very tough, close to impossible.
