I am very critical of Miles myself, but enough with the meltdown over this recruiting class. This is a consensus top 15 class (if Rivals included Hill like everyone else). It is a very small lull from our normal pace (about top 4-8 range) only due to a lack of elite studs. We normally get two 5 stars and this year there were not as many as usual in our main recruiting area. We lost lost our true best shot at one in Collins, and it's not the first time nor will it be the last. For some reason we still weren't stopped by departures such as McKnight and Jackson. Hell we even landed a 5 star QB from Indiana, but that shite happens when you try to do those things. Just ask any fan base that has ever tried to pull talent half way across the country. Every program in the nation has seasons like this, except maybe Texas due to it's state. Even Saban had this caliber of class when he took the job a Bama and proceeded to win a NC while the remaining memebers of it were still juniors. All we have to do is hit business as usual again in 2013 and we will not miss a beat. We already have one 4 star speedster CB on the wagon and a junior day coming this Saturday. Who knows what monster recruit might get lured here next year with what should in all likelihood be another 10+ win season full of national televised games and the potential of the depth chart actually opening up more in 2013. Just chill guys.

Amen! I'm more of a pro football fan in the first place but I have never really understood the facination with recruiting anyway. I definitely don't see why so many people get so upset about some snot-nosed 17 year-olds' decision. But that's just my opinion. I guess when there is no football, football fans will follow anything.

I love all football but none more than LSU, so it is just in my nature to follow recruiting. Am I slightly disappointed in how the class shaped up? Yes because I know what it could have been with Davis, Kiel, Miller, and Collins, but to meltdown if we don't have a class like Bama is ridiculous. They have won 2 NCs since we won our last one. That's the nature of the beast in recruiting (unless your Auburn). This class is solid and is on the heals of one of the better classes we have signed during the internet era last season.

Shut off the alarms for another reason....

MACK BROWN is showing that sucky coaching and play on the field doesnt cost you recruits! For this reason, we are safe!

Maybe because it takes talent to win on a national level?

The class is fine.

What is not fine is only signing 22 while 6 of the state's top 10 go elsewhere. IMO, if a kid is good enough for Nebraska,ARK or Tenn, he is good enough for our 23rd, 24th or 25th spot, especially knowing 1 or 2 won't qualify. We could have used another WR or Safety.

We can win with this bunch if they get coached up a little and work hard. I just don't like seeing so many good instate guys get away.

Maybe coach is just saving 2 or 3 spots because he has better prospects for 2013. Until he makes a statement to that effect, this just doesn't make much sense to me.

Of course we do. But they can't stay forever. We have to replenish. I'm not completely down on this class. I'm just answering his question on why we get worked up on where 17-year-olds decide to go to school.

He might rather a sophmore or redshirt freshman already on his roster over them instead of having to process those kids to make room. Remember we are going to already be cutting to make the 85 man overall limit.

We'll be fine. The kids that go to Tenn, Ark, etc, that would've been our No. 23, 24 or 25 signees do so, plain and simple, because they are probably going to be able to play earlier at those schools. And remember, Tyran was what, a two-star? Our BEST overall D-lineman, because he was from little Coushatta, was a 2 star. We want kids that want to be at LSU and understand that they might have to wait a year or two to get on the field. And if you want to see a school that might be displeased with "flippers", take a look at USC.

I agree with you...but I think talent is only part of the equation. Plus it is tough to define the level of talent by a group of kids that have never played a down of Big Boy football. How many of these "5 Star" kids actually turn out to be good players? I remember more than a handful of "can't miss" prospects who turned out to be flops. And I'm sure there are many instances where a lesser ranked player ends up being a very productive player. I guess what I'm trying to say is I would think the judgement of a particular class should be held until the class has had a chance to perform on the field.

Well of course. (Almost) everyone agrees with that. But if our staff is good at developing the 3 stars, imagine what they could turn the highly heralded guys into. (Not counting Russell Shepard, who is playing woefully out of position.)

Good point. But I guess I'm more interested in looking back four years from now and seeling thow the "2-stars" and "3-stars" developed...hopefully into "5-stars" in college ball. How highly rated was, for example, Craig Steltz? Or Matt Flynn? Or RB from Shreveport now with SD Chargers (apologize for brain cramp) - 5 4th down carries vs. Florida in 2007 win over Tebow/Gatots? Would we have been better off that year if we had "5-star" players as rated by some service with people who've never seen them play in HS...and more importantly, can't measure their heart and love of their school/football team? Just some thoughts about how we can over-react (both ways) over where these classes are rated.
