How much longer of mediocrity will it take to show the AD Department that Trent is not the best option to lead this program? He capitalized on 2 NBA playing brothers and that is all. He cannot coach x's and o's and he cannot evaluate talent. The recruits coming in dont even have scholarships from other top notch schools. The fan base probably has an average of 3k per home game. Its a shame when the baseball team plays teams like Eastern Wichita State(made up) and they get more fans than the basketball team when they play Florida and other top notch programs. At the end of this season he needs to be let go and we need to bring in fresh talent that can come in and give some excitement to the program. Trent has no excitement, he loligags his way around.
Its time that our programs are all on the rise. Football turned around....womens basketball turned around, track was always successful....golf has turned around....mens basketball is the only sport that has declined...and it has so very rapidly. I understand th die hards standng behind this program but you cant build a team on die hards, you have to win over the entire fan base. LSU failed hard when they didnt get Tony Bennett while his wife's family lived in Baton Rouge. Its time to cut ties with Trent.
There are assistants at Duke, UNC, Florida, and Syracuse that are dying to get head jobs. Time to give them a shot. Why not LSU.

most college assistants are assistants for a reason.

Do you really think there was a need for yet ANOTHER thread about this topic? 4 or 5 wasn't enough?

Well, we've got the last 20 years of mediocrity to build upon.

I think almost certainly he gets through next year at the very least.
quote:. Pretty sure that's not gonna happen FWIW.
At the end of this season he needs to be let go
I think he's a good leader and character guy who runs the program the right way demands the right things from his kids off the court.
But he's just not getting it done on the court which is how he will ultimately be judged.
I've come to the conclusion that he's just not a very good bench coach. His system can only be successful with equal or better talent than his opposition and while it's improved this year, he still has a long way to go in that regard.
He's not gonna outcoach anyone save for maybe Stansbury and his buddy at Georgia.
I'm really pulling for him but ultimately I want LSU basketball to be good again. And my doubts are increasing as to whether he can bring that here.
Hope I'm wrong.

We aren't going to fire a coach mid-season, so this is a pointless discussion. Plus, would you still be unhappy if LSU finished 8-8 and made the NIT? It seems like people who haven't looked at the schedule have no idea how brutal our first 7 were so here it is:
Ole Miss
@Arkansas
@Alabama
Auburn
@Florida
@Mississippi State
Kentucky
Out of those 7 which ones that we lost did you expect us to win?
Seriously someone brought up a valid point last night, what if the schedule were opposite and we started 5-2 then went 3-6 the rest of the way and still finished 8-8 would you be pissed then?

I expected a 2-5 start, but I expected more competitive efforts against Bama and Kentucky.
And in retrospect, Arkansas was there to be had if we had played well...we didn't.
So while we are where I expected, I just think it's not as good a 2-5 as it should be if that makes sense.
The back end of the schedule is favorable. I'll give them a shot, but it's hard to be as optimistic coming off that second half and White's BS and all.
We'll find out what we're about soon enough. Arkansas will IMHO tell alot about what this team is made of.

I agree with basically everything you said... also, frick the SEC scheduler (there I feel a bit better ).
They have to come out, play well and beat Arkansas at this point imo, and I think they can.

we just can't score.
How many easy baskets do we get from our offense?
We run the a lot of sets for mediocre shooters (2nd option bc we never hit the first - usually the flex cut) and then feed the post. Most of the time it's our post player making tough shots. JH usually makes a move and scores or Storm shoots a turn around jumper.

That all depends on how this season plays out.
We win 5-6 of our last games and reach NIT, he stays.
We don't, he's gone...contract extention last season or not. imo
Hope he gets the job done. I am not eager for another guy coming in and needing another 3 years to get his style/players up and running.
While it's true that La HS talent has been down, there has been enough in La and states close by for us to have done better in the last 3 years with able recruiting.

Think this happens:
UGA
Tennessee
@SCAR
@Auburn
and then one out of the other five: @Ole Miss, @Vandy, Arkansas, Alabama, MSU

I agree with you on all of them... State's gonna be tough, but LSU/State games are always close so I can certainly see LSU pull that one out at home. That puts us at 8-8 and probably in the NIT especially if they get one SECT win
Posted on 1/29/12 at 11:48 am to Tigerfan7218
8-8 gets us in either way I think.

I'll take 7-9 and a win or two in the tourney or 8-8.

So we have to sit through another year of this crap?

If we finished 8-8 in conference (and 18-12 overall), that's a five game improvement in the SEC over last season. I guess that's unacceptable.
Who are you going to hire as a coach that is going to make a 10 game improvement in the conference record next year? Phil Jackson?
If LSU has been a .500 team for 20 years, why do people expect us to 27-3 year in and year out?
Posted on 1/29/12 at 12:22 pm to VegasPro
The one think Johnson has going for him is that he is Alleva's first hire, which means Alleva will give him more room for error than if he wasn't his guy.

Assistants at this place have been nothing but failures for the most part in major programs.
