I think TJ is a good coach, but he can't get over the hump in recruiting.

this is as good as it gets under him...

We need a home run hire, I have no clue who that would be...

I miss Dale Brown teams...that was so much fun and so long ago

Our struggles since he left (actually, since he ran out of gas after Shaq left) should make us realize what a remarkable job Daddy Dale did in a state that really doesn't give a flip about basketball. Don't know that we'll ever get back there again. We don't have a single player who would be in UK's top seven and it's hard to imagine why one who would be would choose us over a program like that.

but but but we weren't gonna beat Kentucky anyways! TJ deserves a pass! I mean Kentucky is the only team he's been losing to this past few seasons anyways right?

I've seen enough. The team is improved and is as deep as its been in a long time but that improvement still hasn't put us in a position to compete with high level competition. I'm also suffering from the 80's syndrome as I watched so many great Tiger teams play some incredible games back then. It's truly frustrating not having a hoops team that can generate excitement on a national level.

your words hurt deep bro.

Now run along and defend your boy TJ some more. Maybe we can improve to a whopping 15 wins next year. We're steam rolling toward an undefeated season by year 12 under TJ.

It's going to take somebody who can convince that big-time player to come in and help revive the program....Dont look like Trent is that "somebody".

He's not "my boy." I don't know why anyone is surprised at where we are right now with how our schedule is set up. We still have a great chance at getting to 8-8 in conference this year. If we play like shite down the stretch then of course he needs to go, but firing him in the middle of the season doesn't do us any better than at the end of the season

I think Trent is a mediocre bench coach at best, but I think he brings some good things to the table Re: leadership and principal that I like.

But his philosiphy, specifically offensively where it is very simplistic but he allows his kids poor shot selection without accountability requires superior talent.

You need kids who can create on their own or hit tough shots and we just don't have that.

When you have this philosiphy you will not overachieve, you'll just beat the team you're better than and right now there are only about 3-4 teams in the conference that meet that criteria.

Unless he gets Gathers to compliment Morgan and we keep Hamilton another year, we won't have that next year either.

No Gathers is Trent's Waterloo.

Yup. It's embarrassing watching us jack up 25 foot 3's & our best player not even touching the ball.

It's my single biggest beef with Trent. I've heard him speak to it and it ain't gonna change.

He says he demands too much of his kids in every other aspect that he doesn't want to stifle their confidence in demanding the burden of too much accountability for shot selection. That basketball is supposed to be fun.

But how is letting your team down by repeatedly jacking bad shots fun?

I miss the Dale Brown teams of the 80's not the 90's. He left this program for dead. Dale Brown was great recruiter but was not a very good coach, he was good when he had Huckabee and tex winters. He also had one of the most talented team ever, and never got past the second round. Dale Brown could never be successful in this day and time of one and dones. College bb is completely different than those days. To compete at a high level you need to get some guys who can play in the NBA, up to this point TJ has not brought in one player who will be drafted. JOB...maybe in a couple of years. NIT is gonna be the best we can hope for with this guy, he seems not to be interested in that type of kid. We can forget the stromiles, tyrus, basses, thorntons, big baby, types with TJ. There are very few teams that have four year kids in the Final Four. If your a Senior still playing bb make sure you graduate with a degree cause your gonna have to find a real job.

Yeah, Trent would never recruit Louisiana's best.

We need a young coach who wants to make a name for himself. Someone who will be able to maximize the resources LSU can provide.

This jr33.

I relish the memories of the best of times with Dale I really do.

But the dude mailed it in his last four years. He left a a program for dead and totally gutted the infratstructure.

And to top that off he was complicit in landing us on a very punitive and effective probation that left us in the position of having to lower our standards greatly in choosing a successor
AND he accepted no accountabilty for it and left the Redfield Bryan's, Johnny Jones's and Guss Piazza's twisting in the wind while he shouted at windmills and Gestapo Bastard's enough for the NCAA to tack on a few more sanctions to the punitive steps we self-imposed for the sins we admitted to.

I've forgiven Dale, and he's done more for the downtrodden than I'll ever think of doing, but I just can't conjure wistful rememberances of him.

We can rebuild this program. It may well not be with T.J. but we can and it doesn't have to be based on the Dale Brown template IMHO.
