Anyone know of any good deal currently for 1911 style pistols? No particular brand in mind. If you have one for sale, I'll let you post that too

probably not what you're looking for, but buds had a .22 1911 for $200

Ruger came out with a great one in the $700 range, but they are hard to find

Yeah, I already saw that add. Not quite what I am looking for. Thanks though.

Ruger is the only style I don't particularly like actually.

My wife bought me a Remington R1 for Christmas at Cabelas for 700.00, very accurate gun shoots well.

Get the ruger and write a good review so I can decide if I want one or not.

Are you saying this b/c you own one, both, or have experience shooting them and can compare them to other models? Or b/c you have read good things about them online and in magazines? I am always wanting to purchase a 1911, but never do. You will be the second person to recommend the Rock Island, and I am curious why.

What don't you like about it?

Asking for a "good deal" and a 1911 and then saying you don't like the Ruger is kind of strange. What are you looking for in a 1911?

Again, why? They aren't a very good value in 1911s. I know I'm going to hurt some feelings with that comment, but I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over it. I'm not saying they aren't good weapons, but for they are a little too proud of what they have. You can get pistols of the same quality with comparable features for less money.

What do you think is the best value in a 1911? I don't know much about them other than the reviews I've read. I've fired the Rock Island and Springfield basic models, but only a few rounds each. I liked them both.

IF you want a real quality 1911 look at Les Baer. They'll make want to hug yourself.

If you just want a solid 1911, Colt, Kimber, Springfield (in that order).

If you are hard core and an OT baller, Wilson Combat is your weapon.

I really want a Sig Nightmare. I doubt they are being sold for deals, though. Probably $1100'ish.

Have you heard anything about Dan Wesson's 1911's?

Older Kimbers are better then new Kimbers. There was a split in the company and they decided to ride their name to riches and let their quality slide.

I haven't. Now would be a good time to disclose the fact that I don't pride myself in being extremely well versed on all things 1911. I started getting into them and found that rifles were really a more intriguing and practical hobby for me. What I learned in the brief period that I was researching them is what I reported. If you have the chance to handle all of them side by side and learn what to look for, you'll see what I mean.

ETA: If you fall in love with a Kimber then just ignore me. You'll be happy. If you're looking for a new 1911 crush and have don't have the money then never pick up a Les Baer or Wilson Combat. They're like crack and the next thing you know you're on your knees in an airport bathroom trying to pad your gun fund.

Not that I ever did that, of course.

I own a Kimber and I LOVE it and prop it every time a thread like this comes up. I just have a standard carry model in a 4in w iron sight etc and i freakin love the gun, There is nothing wrong with a Kimber.
Dan Wesson's are produced by CZ, not in the USA as well as the Armscor/Rock Island those are made in the Philippines , Those are essentially the same and are decent but the fit and finish may vary per mode. I do not own a Rock Island but i do know about them and they are ok , for the money you cant beat them,
For me other than Kimber and if i were to get another 1911, I would go with Fusion, 1300.00 can get you an awesome gun.
Les Baer is a great gun. I am not so hot for the Wilson Combats.

Ed Browns are also spectacular but very expensive.

I second the Kimber comments. I love both of mine and have had no major problems with either. No 1911 will be as reliable as a Glock or Sig but mine treat me well.

They are expensive but the quality and feel are worth it in my opinion. Are there other guns out there that are just as nice, hell yeah. Are there guns that are just as reliable, hell yeah. However, I choose Kimber as my 1911 brand and do not regret it at all.
