Justin Hamilton was 5-8 on field goals. He only took 8 shots and 2 of those were off of offensive rebounds. The entire team took 60 shots. Hamilton has proved himself. He is our best, most consistent player. But he is a seven foot center. He can't score if the guards don't give him the ball. Time and again he was posted up and the guards saw him and didn't give him the ball. He was wide open on the pick and roll and they didn't get him the ball.

Sure Stringer hit some late three's and Hickey some early ones. They will be even more wide open for those if the offense goes through Hamilton. But we are never going to win the SEC with two under six foot guards shooting long threes being our main offense.

Good things happen when the ball goes into Hamilton. He gets double teamed which leaves others open and he can and will pass out of a double team. He gets the other teams big men in foul trouble. He is usually a good free throw shooter. And last but not least he scores a lot with a good shooting percetage.

Don't know why they didn't throw it to him today but they didn't. Don't know why Trent didn't correct this during the game but he didn't. Don't know why Hamilton is so timid and doesn't demand the ball but he doesn't. Have to change this if we are going to win some more games.

I agree 100% he should touch the ball on just about every possion...and if it's not there JH is a team player..he can kick back out for the open 3

I agree offense should always go "inside/out" & guards should slash to the lane to create contact. Also too many 4 min time frames of rise and fire

They lost because Miss St has better talent and was the better team.

We have nobody who can box out and rebound. shite we could have had a chance to tie it twice late in the game if we could have not given up offensive rebounds and put backs.

And we played on the road.

Alabama just lost on the road to USCe. Playing on the road is hard.

Totally agree. Not getting him touches falls on the coach. Wonder if he is afraid of the attention he would get from the NBA if he featured him? Probably too late to hide him.

Another problem last night was that Hickey was playing out of control. He put us back in the game with his 3's at the end, but we went on a nice run in the middle of the second half when he sat down and then promptly gave it all back when he came back in. Growing pains I guess, but I would have like to see an effort to start with getting the ball inside instead of an offense that looks for 3's first.

It's going to be hard to win games without Ralston Turner. Simple as that. 6 ppg in conference coming off a freshman all-conference season where he hit for double figures in 7 of the 12 SEC games he played in.

Complete regression, it's maddening. Hamilton and Hickey are playing great, the bonus offense we get from Stringer is fine, but Turner needs to be a steady force for us rather than purely a catch and shoot 3 point threat.

I know he was just coming back, but almost everytime JOB touched the ball, bad things happened..I think TJ left him out there too long with the lay-off, but I guess he thought it was the best option. His choice of shots isn't the best, even for a freshman. He was much better attacking the basket.

Couldn't agree more. I was screaming last night "he's there!"
Too much guard play. If a big man is that good and working that hard, you give him the ball!

LSU simply doesn't have the horses to compete with the teams in the upper tier of the sec. They are a program that will continually hover around .500 in the sec and occasionally make the big dance. Nothing wrong with that considering they will never put the emphasis on basketball like a couple other sec teams do.

it was clear to me from the first few games that turner was the difference between lsu being average or above average. however, i made that comment back when hamilton was getting the ball most of the time.

Whoa, if TJ does anything, it is run these stupid middle school level sets to get the big man open. Everywhere he has gone it has been about the big men. Problem is, you've got a set of shoot-first guards (even Hickey has turned into one) that won't make the entry pass. There isn't much a coach can do outside of put Bass and Eddie in (the only two who make entry passes). I do not like TJ one bit but you can't blame him for his guards not passing the ball in.

When Turner went off, we beat a top 10 team. When Turner struggles, we're pretty average.

This post is spot on. I txt'd my friend last night saying Hickey always struggles to feed the post. He had several easy opportunities last night & didn't do it.

One of my main frustrations with TJ is no fricking accountability is being held with shot selection.

That's what it all boils down to. Hamilton and Hickey are consistent, you're going to get what you get and it's going to be enough. Turner is what tips the scales one way or another.

turner IS only a catch and shoot guy. that's about all he did against marquette as well, he was just 'on.' just does not seem to me that he has it in him to reach that all-sec type level that so many predicted. i see his ceiling as more of the 2nd-best player on an ok team or the 3rd best player on a real good team. he could become an elite defender, though.

I just don't understand what happened with Turner between this year and last. Did he not workout and put effort in the gym in the offseason? He was never the most athletic guy, but at least last year he'd drive, take it to the hole and get fouled, or step back after the drive and hit the jumper. Nothing this year, not even dribbling is easy for him.
