I don't know why there is so much hate for the fourth one. Yeah, it wasn't like the other three in terms of violence, but the action is there. Not only that, but Die Hard with a Vengeance was poorly reviewed (currently at 50% on rottentomatoes) while Live Free or Die Hard has a certifiably fresh percentage of 82%. Much of the hate seems manufactured and trendy in my opinion.

In fact, if we ranked them by how RT ranks them, it would look like this.

1. Die Hard - 94%
2. Live Free or Die Hard - 82%
3. Die Hard 2: Die Harder - 65%
4. Die Hard with a Vengeance - 50%

There is a lot of ridiculous shite in these movies, but the plane scene in Die Hard 4 was just too damn ridiculous. And Timothy Olyphant is an awesome actor, but he was weak in it.

Die Hard 2 is amazing imo.

1, 2, 3, and 4 is the ranking I would do as the guy above stated.

This is my list. Love em all.

1) DH. It's overrated, but still the best.
2) DH3. Not sure why the hate. It's almost as good as DH.
3) DH4. Way better than I expected. The quality of the action sequences almost makes up for the fact its' PG-13.
4) DH2.
