We are after a few guys right now that can plug some of the very few holes LSU has going into 2012.

Cordarrelle Patterson is VERY good. A commitment from him would do amazing things for the passing game next year (the only offensive void is a big WR),

Mario Edwards adds even MORE depth and gives another body that can play in the middle. He also gives us a legit run stuffing DE option. The better our DL, the less pressure on our LBs (the biggest weakness next year).

I don't know if L. Patterson is ready to play next year, but it would seem the LBing corp is looking for someone to step up.

These few players, especially Edwards and Cordarrelle are game changers that push LSU to that next level of competitiveness, IMO.

Edwards and C. Patterson would immediately make this team better imo, if they are as good as their hype of course.

It's at two positions where we need help at.

Patterson would definitely start and would be our best receiver right away, imo, so we need to put the full court press on him.

The pieces are in place for a JUCO WR prospect.

1) Great QB that CP has experience playing against -- he knows Mett can spin it.

2) Only school with an open #1 spot for a big WR; immediate playing time

3) Most successful program he is considering (Ole Miss & Georgia)

4) The head coach is heading his recruitment -- somewhat of a rarity.

I think their film is as "can't miss" as it gets. It is obvious that they are ready to play at the next level right now.

Patterson gives me a Julio Jones vibe. He is surprisingly quick for being as big as he is. He has "pro" written all over him.

Agree with all of the above

Btw, what are your thoughts on Liggins as a QB?

He is such a different prospect...it is so rare to see a QB at 270-280 lbs with the quickness he shows. He makes Jared Lorenzon look in-shape.

I have my doubts -- I just don't think it is worth taking him this year because there are so many questions and QB isn't a die-hard need.

I can't see him playing QB at LSU.... but if he's as good an athlete as proclaimed.... he's got the body for TE.

If we have a spot open and he's the best player avilable and still interested in LSU... no downside to signing him IMO.

I think we push hard on a top QB next year.

Just for the sake of discussion, if we don't land Edwards, Patterson, Liggins, who are some filler players you see us picking up to fill the last 4 spots in this year's class?

Not a ton of names have been mentioned, so I don't know if the staff wants to use filler players or if they will just stick with a smaller class.

I really like Corey Thompson and we just offered Trae Elston so those are two others to watch. Kwon Alexander is another and of course Landon Collins.

That gives us 8 players down the stretch that we are going hard for until Signing Day. I don't see LSU striking out on everyone.

Ideally, we finish this class with:
Landon Collins/Corey Thompson/Trae Elston (maybe 2 of these depending how things turn out)
Mario Edwards
C. Patterson
K. Alexander

This was a big weekend and it seems like we will end with:
Mario Edwards
C. Patterson
Trae Elston's offer could help secure our final take for this year with K. Alexander

However, if we can get Kwon without Elston, expect an all out press on Thompson or T. Howard

Would much rather have us under sign than sign filler players though

and of course Landon Collins.

I just can't understand how people are still discussing him as if he's a possibility.

I am not putting any faith in it, but the staff isn't going to just give up on his recruitment.

people who think we will sway LC from his commitment from Bama must be old or have forgotten what it was like to be 18.

I saw a tweet right after he declared at the UA game and it was spot on. I don't know who tweeted it, but I will paraphrase:

Landon Collins' girlfriend has a recruiting tool that is undefeated in the history of mankind.

It doesn't matter what we sell to him, he is going to Bama with his girl unless they break up and have a massive falling out between now and Feb 1. He is heading to Tuscaloosa. Accept it and move on. His mother has no influence over him and even if she did, his gf would have more.

Just seems like a waste of time to me. I know they have to do it, and I would love to turn the guy because he's going to be ridiculously good at the next level and I fricking hate Alabama and Nick Saban with a passion at this point, but this kid is gone. He's not my favorite person either.
