I'm looking at Frigidaire or GE in the $700ish range. I hear great things about GE..are they still tops?

anything i should look for? I'm freaking excited to get a gas range after cooking electric all these years.

La Cornue, about a grand more for the cheap one, but she would be worth it.

get a 5 burner gas cook top so that the one in the middle is big enough to do a big pot of gumbo or red beans. Also, when I had ours put in I ran a 3/4 inch line so that all burners would get enough gas to run at full blast at the same time. Plumber said it was a good idea and cost nothing to upgrade from 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch. That gas cook top comes in handy when there is no electricity after hurricanes. Good luck.

i think this is what we got about a yr ago, and ours as about $800. It was on the cheaper side of others out there. Not sure why they are so expensive, theres nothing to them, anyway love it, works great, takes a little getting used to.

sweet, this is my second question; who can run the line? just get a plumbing contractor or are there people who specialize in running gas lines?

the stove area is literally on the same wall my gas water heater is on..maybe 5 feet away.

Any plumber can do it. I had the line run up through the attic across 10 feet then down in between the walls to inside the kitchen cabinet.
Very simple, took the plumber 1:30 and cost $300.
Go with the 5 burner what ever you do. I went with Kitchenaid and could not be happier. Actually my wife is happy which makes my life a walk in the park.

Get one of these. Double oven is the way to go and +1 on the 5 burner. May be a little over your price though.

We got a 1000$ one. Electrolux? I'm in bed but thats what I think it is. Doesn't really matter what brand, cause holy shite a gas stove is a million times better than electric.

Mom's got an Electrolux that she really likes. I kind of want one, but I have to wait until mine dies or we build a new house.

I HATE the glasstop I inherited in this new house. Any change you make should be a positive.

Go for the GE. I'm in the process of redoing my kitchen and have done a lot of research on ranges in the last six months. Several manufacturers of other kitchen appliances, who have good track records with their traditional lines, have entered the range market in recent years. Avoid those, I've heard nothing but complaints about them from dealers and contractors. In your price range GE is probably your best bet.
