What will they end up doing to that capsized cruise ship in Italy?

Is it salvageable? Or will they drag it out to sea where it is deep and sink it?

Of course. They will not scuttle a billion dollar cruise ship.

From the latest pictures I saw it looks like it is 2/3 submerged now. Chances are they will salvage it, though. It'll be $95 million for it to miss a year of service, or $1 billion to build a new one. You have to believe they'll just let it miss a year of service.

I'd imagine they sink it close to it's current location.

Make a helluva artificial reef. Be some good fishing.

Do they keep insurance on those things?

This is from today. I have to believe it is close to settling by now. Once they get all of that fuel out (500,000 gallons) it'll be a lot lighter and easier to salvage.

I read they were possibly going to patch the holes and lift it up with big balloons and drag it away.

5 years in court. Salvage it, rebuild, probably beginning with that big hole in the bottom of it.

Disney bought it.

They are going to make a ride called The Poseidon Adventure.

Other than the hole in the bottom, the actual metal structure of the ship should still be almost completely in-tact. I'd image they will only need to rewire and completely strip and redo the interior of the ship which shouldn't take too long.

I'm sure they do. Transocean had insurance on their (at least) equally (or more) expensive oil rig.

True, but I'd imagine they try to salvage everything still above the water line, and the interior work should not exceed more than 75% of the cost of building a new one which would also take a lot longer to get into service.
