UNSTICKY PLEASE - 100 Movies We Agree Don't Suck: 80's Edition

Top 100 MWADS: The 1980's
The Childhood Strikes Back
Ah the 80's. A time of One-Eyed Willy, Ferris and Cameron, the height of Stars Wars mania, and even Kurosawa. And Van Damme. And Transformers. And....the list goes on and on.
What will dominate the list? Will we create a list of 100 movies that were important to our childhood the feature Red Rider BB Guns, flux capacitors, and BMX serenading or will we resort to ranking Scorcese's great movies, Allen's peak, and the mighty reign of John Carpenter??
I can't really label the 80's, mostly because it is that contentious for me. My childhood, and a decade filled with an influx of foreign films, multiple director's hitting their stride, and an overwhelming sense of nostalgia (stronger than the 90's) all create a whirlwind of a decade. After this, I expect a decrease in participation, but maybe this is going to be the all out battle we have always hoped for. I expect rage, yelling, and well, Bolo Yeung. Because you know when you need a random Chinese tough guy, there's only one guy to call. "You are next!"
Without delay, let's get down to the rules, as normal:
Ballots will be posted in this thread as a response. Please label your films 1-20, with 1 being the highest, 2 next and so forth (doesn't matter how you list them, forwards or backwards, but make sure 1 is your top film). I will let the thread sink in for a week or so, then I will lock in answers with an announcement (as in, "NO FURTHER CHANGES FROM NOW ON) I will bump this thread daily until the first list is posted, I'm sure it will take a couple of days to start getting lists in.*
ONLY FILMS RELEASED BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 1980 and DECEMEBER 31, 1989 will be considered. ALL OTHER FILMS ARE UNQUALIFIED. Check the dates of the films you include
I am also taking the list of volunteers for write-ups. You know the drill. If you love film and want to unleash your Shakespearean eloquence upon the masses, sign up.

Couldn't agree more. Being born in 1979 the 80s is the decade that shaped defined my taste in movies and in life. It's impossible for me to separate my nostalgia from any of critical thinking and even though I've seen hundreds of 80s movies during the 80s I've seen some truly remarkable ones in the following decades. I still watch 80s movies I haven't seen before and I will try and included those that I feel are worthy.
I looked at my movies 80s section I have on my imdb account(great way to keep tack of your movies) and I have 25 favorites so I guess I'll have some trimming to do. Thanks for the week I might take a few days to think about it.

I know, I know this was a long time in coming, haha. But I finally can book some time to dedicate (obviously I have been posting more often.
Same here. So many movies after the fact of living through it. One most likely in my top 5, Amadeus, I didn't see until about 5 years ago.

That's one I did see in the 80s. Classical music is all my Dad listens to so naturally he made sure I watched this one. I didn't understand it all at the time but I remember it being the first time I enjoyed classical music and as far as the movie I remember being impressed by the pageantry of it all.

'79 to '89 is my wheelhouse...the 80's are my waking existence...from child to teen. I don't remember much of the late 70's and was too busy having fun to care about the 90's - it's all about the 80's.

After selected. Freaux will send you an email and assign you a film. You write the review and he puts it in the list when its revealed.

Also, just a note, I feel my "Just Missed the List" on this decade will be massive. I think the 80's has few truly "great" films, but it has a massive amount of really really good films.

I loved Breakfast Club so much because of how it defined a generation, and all within the confines of one set.
When I think of the 80's, I think of big hair and Breakfast Club.

Thanks for bumping the old list.
After a few years, I think we need to update the overall list one. Maybe do that between the 80's and 70's unless people are itching for the 70's version.

Think I'm gonna limit myself to just one Coen Bros movie this time. It's gonna be hard to pick between Raising Arizona and Blood Simple. But I'm leaning towards Arizona due to the fact that I saw that one in the 80s.
