The whole thing fell apart when Miles gave the starting QB job back to someone who really hadn't earned it. We were a better "team" with Lee behind center. Miles is the one who divided this team.

JJ ran the option at Bama and caught them off guard, but he didn't deserve to start after that. This was Lee's team this year.

The one thing that I am remembering that I saw is that on either the 1st or 2nd series on offense, on 3rd down I think it was, JJ fumbled the snap. He dropped the ball and then fell on it and got up. 2 Bama defenders "pushed him back" and the ball appeared to be "spiked" or slammed to the ground. AS BEST AS I COULD TELL it was JJ who did it ... at first I thought that the Bama defender or 1 of them had knocked it out ... I paused it and rewound/fforwarded it many times but just couldn't tell if JJ did it or if the defender knocked it out.

The other thing that I remember on that same play is JJ seemed to be almost lighting into PJ Lonergan about the snap I assume ... but the commentators said something about "JJ needs to reach for the ball" or "be ready for it" .. somethign along those lines as I remember thinking ok, they're saying it's on JJ, not Lonergan.

Wind, my watching it will be pieces as a time. But I am sure it's more of the same.

lsualum, out of curiosity did this player/parent have a different opinion of Miles before/after?

I'm just curious as to what the players and parents actually think.

And what exactly did JL do to earn the starting QB job back in early fall? Not get accused of being in a bar fight?

And it wasn't CLM who divided the team, because if you've followed the team at all this year, it was blatantly obvious that a shite ton of them wanted 'their quarterback' back despite what JL had done on the field. That wasn't on CLM. And I've of the opinion that if CLM had told the JJ crew in the lockerroom that they were shite out of luck and JL was the starter forever, he would have lost the team a whole lot sooner than the last game of the season.

It wasn't everyone in the lockerroom vs. JJ. JJ had a LOT of support, most of it from leaders on D who are the main reason we went 13-0.

So WTF do you expect the coach to do in that situation?

That and having more passing touchdowns through eight games than Jefferson had in the last two seasons combined

Lee earned the starting spot when he lead us to 8 straight wins. 5 of those were ranked opponents.

JJ is the only one to blame for losing his chance in the fall. Lee was next man up. He earned that starting position by what he did AFTER that.

Thanks ... I watched it I swear 5 or 6 times in slow mo and really couldn't tell as their backs were to the camera and the ball was in front of the players.

from my seat is was plain as day, and it was early in the game so i wasnt completely hammered. i was surprised there wasnt a flag. granted it would have been kind of weak, but they seem to call them for all sorts of weak shite these days.

ETA: since you are rewatching (i cant bring myself to do it) was that a block in the back on the big punt return?

didn't get that far. not sure how much I'll finish watching.

someone did say that with about 6+ minutes to go in the 4th that miles had a "crying" look on his face ... want to check that out. really want to scan through it for any sideline shots. Just don't know when as my husband and boys don't want to do it ... you'd think I could do that now but just don't feel like it.

we were in 634 ... bought 2 tickets for my husband as a 20th anniversary surprise. SURPRISE. They laid an egg. anyway, didn't see it real well at all ... and the beer guy never even came up to our section. Ididn't want it bad enough to go down to get any but in hindsight, I should have.

OK, going by your 'he earned it retroactively' criteria (I'll do like you and overlook the fact that he didn't earn the initial start), a fair number of guys on the team disagreed that he'd earned it after those 8 games.

I'm not saying I agree with them. Personally, I think JL 'earning' the spot at the beginning of the season over fricked up charges over a bar fight (in which the charges against JJ were hugely exaggerated) set the team up for disfunction. Despite that, I think JL did a better job as team leader during those 8 months than JJ did over three years.

Yet...a great number of players wanted JJ to start when he was back on the squad...he was 'their quarterback'. And many of those players who supported JJ are team leaders/playmakers directly responsible for the record we had this year.

Honestly, what do you think CLM should have done? Told 2/3 of the team, including Mo Claiborne and HB7, to STFU and GTFO? Because those were just some of the players behind JJ after JL had 'earned' that starting spot, as you claim.

I have no idea what CLM could have done in those circumstances. Maybe you do, but it was a fricked up situation and not nearly as clear-cut as many like to pretend.

Rosie what the hell? Are you JJ or someone kin to him? After the game a friend of mine said "Well JJ is finally gone and we have been having the same discussion for 4 years now about him". In other words he has never been very good. JJ has had every chance come hell or high water!!!

I can tell you that I am sure that CLM is as glad as we all are that this season is OVER and that as much as he may like these 2 QBs as people/players, that he's as glad as we are that they're out of here.

NOW is the time for him to regain control of the team and not let go.

I was there and saw it. The second wave of players trickled out and many were walking in no hurry to get to the sideline. It was very strange

Players AND other LSU coaches wanted to see Lee in the 2nd half. Miles refused.
This could be very real as this is what took place on the field.

Um...no, and I don't see how you'd think that. Maybe my 'JL didn't earn that starting job at the beginning of the year' made you think I was somehow supporting JJ. FACT...any backup who starts because the starter is suspended from the team did not 'earn' the spot...even if the back up is Drew Brees and the starter is Dumbfrick Gonzales-No-Talent. The lockerroom issues didn't start midway through the season after JL had 'earned' the starting job...they were there from the beginning when JL was given the job over the designated starter, JJ. To pretend these issues cropped up after JL lost the job he'd 'earned' is to insinuate everyone in the lockerroom backed JL. And that didn't happen...it's much more grey than clear-cut, and it certainly wasn't the team plus JL vs. JJ and CLM, as some have suggested.

The lockerroom was divided, early on, and even when things were goingok, bad feelings were under the surface. I'm not saying I agree with those supporting jj...in fact, I'm pretty sure I've said the opposite...I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation.

Again, WTF do you think CLM could have done if several team leaders were behind 'their quarterback' JJ? *for the posters with reading comprehension issues, that doesn't mean I agree with those who backed JJ, I'm simply pointing out that a lot of players supported him...EVEN AFTER JL's FIRST 8 GAMES*

And when it began to fall apart, Miles should have had someone ready and replaced JJ. It was obvious in the UGA game that JJ didn't have it.

I highly doubt JJ had as much support at halftime of the NCG. WHat you expect a coach to do is make a man's decision, one he is paid elite money to do.

Miles created this problem and it cost him, he deserves every bit of criticism.
