This 2011 team is probably the best team we've ever had, even with the quarterback problems.

2012 will be great, and they have an opportunity to win the national championship, but the talent we had this year is unbelievable. Only 2006 rivals this team.

Reuben Randle, Morris Claiborne, Michael Brockers, Brandon Taylor, James Stampley are all pretty irreplaceable next season.

Randle gave us a true deep threat, and I don't think we'll have anyone on the team who can give that to us next season.

Claiborne is the best cover corner we've ever had at LSU. I'm a little worried about the cornerback position next year. Claiborne shut down his receiver, allowing Chavis to have the rest of the defense fly around and make plays. Mathieu's playmaking ability was aided big time by Claiborne.

Brockers is a freak. We've always had great DTs, from Lavalais, to Dorsey, to Nevis, to now; but having him for one more season would have been huge. Hopefully the other Freak (Johnson) will step up big.

Brandon Taylor was not only the most underrated player on our defense, but in the conference and the entire country, as well. About halfway through the season, it sort of became the cool thing to do to say how underrated Taylor was, so he sort of started to get the recognition he deserved. He was an outstanding leader in the secondary. He was the best communicator we had and fabulous against the run. Just an incredibly smart player, with great instincts. He was always in the middle of plays. I'm really sad to see him go, and it hurt the most to see him walking off the field on Monday with tears in his eyes. I hope he knows how much he meant to this program.

Stampley was a man at fullback. We got away from him towards the end of the season with the emergence of Hilliard, but he's still a huge loss for this team.

I think we'll still be a national championship contender next year. However, you won't see any more 30-point beat downs of the Auburn, Florida, and Georgias of the world. Although Mettenberger will be an upgrade at quarterback, it could take him a little bit of time to get his feet wet.

At the end of the day, I think we'll win our first 8 games. @Auburn and @Florida will be tough, but we're still 14+ points better than both of those teams on talent alone. It'll all come down to the Alabama game, once again. However, Arkansas will be a huge road test to end the regular season as well.

I think the 2012 team has the potential to win every game that it plays. An SEC Championship is not out of the question, but 10-2 isn't out of the question either. No matter what, it'll be a great season. I just hope it ends on a sweeter note than this one.

You do realize Copeland took his job as a sophomore.

We will be unstoppable with a QB and all the running backs coming back. Our schedule is also light years easier next year.

Jakhari Gore has potential good move on his part. He'll never reach full potential at LSU. Anybody know where he is transferring?

I'm sorry, I got Copeland and Stampley confused. What I said about Stampley was meant about Copeland. However, since Copeland obviously isn't graduating, I guess it's irrelevant.

So nevermind, only four of those guys are irreplaceable.

I agree we will be better on offense, but our back 7 on defense is a little up in the air at this point. I know we will be fine on defense, and that we always have a lot of depth and talent in waiting on that side of the ball, but it won't be quite at the same level as it was this year, in my opinion. Plus, at the end of the day, Mettenberger still has to prove what he can do on the field (although I'm sure he'll be good).

we will be better on offense

Mett comes in and lights it up next year IMO. We return all of our RB's and our O-line will be very experienced. We will still have an awesome FB. The only part of our offense next year that might be a little weak will be at WR. Having OBJ and Landry in their 2nd year should help a lot though.

Offensive losses that hurt:

#2 Reuben Randle WR Jr
#10 Russel Shepard WR Jr

*these last 3 mainly just hurt depth*

#53 T-Bob Hebert C/OG Sr
#60 Will Blackwell OG Sr
#75 Greg Shaw OT Sr

Defensive losses that hurt:

#17 Morris Claiborne CB Jr
#90 Michael Brockers RS Sophomore
#18 Brandon Taylor S Sr
#22 Ryan Baker LB Sr

*last 2 are depth though Adams was a starter*

#13 Ron Brooks DB Sr
#94 Kendrick Adams DE Sr

Overall, we have a lot of young guys to fill in their spots and we will still be good. Freak, La'el, Simon, Dworzyack (maybe), Minter, OBJ, Landry, Loston.

We're still going to be a run-first team. A power running team. That won't change. To do that, you need a great defense.

Now, if the defense isn't as good as it needs to be (which is doubtful), we can throw the ball more and move the ball that way. However, the most effective way to win with our talent is to run the ball effectively, control the ball, control time of possession, wear down the defense, and control field position with our defense and special teams.

That is also Miles' way. And it's a good way. The offense will be better, you are right. But we will always be a defensive-oriented team. Hopefully guys in the secondary will step up.

Word is that we lost two today. One to Auburn and another is headed to Alabama.

Thanks to all these guys for their contribution to the Tigers over the years and I wish them all the best.

I see three groups here:

No one on current roster that can fully replace them:
Randle
Claiborne

Someone on current roster will fully replace them (maybe not immediately but at some point):
Brockers (in this group only because of Freak after an off-season with Moffitt)
Taylor
Blackwell
Baker
Crappell (but a long snapper can quickly replace another one)

The rest are replaceable with an equal or potentially better player and mainly are a loss of depth and experience.

The losses will hurt, but the sky is not falling and life goes on.
