How does an "elite" program get itself into a 4 year JJ/JL mess?

I realize RP accounted for the first year (or two?), but who was the heir apparent after RP? Why did we not seek a transfer player or JUCO? Why did we just ride this lame fricking rollercoaster for 4 years?

Both JJ and JL were obviously not SEC caliber QB's (each had their moments, but the body of work of both players is subpar to put it mildly).

This 4 year saga was sort of a microcosm of Monday night's game, we didnt do or try anything to change it, we just rode it out hoping it would somehow correct itself.

Now this is a legitimate criticism of CLM IMO

Lee and JJ were highly rated QB's. Just never panned out. Lost confidence early maybe....

JL was imo. He was one of the highest rated qb's out of texas. Wasn't he one of the players on the cover of sports mag (issustrated maybe?)? He just got thrown in before he was ready and then you have a love affair between a coach and player.

Hindsight is 20/20...I'm sure going into it the coaches thought they would improve. Now why they stuck with either of them when it wasn't working boggles my mind.

That's the million dollar question.

Why do you think people assumed JJ had pictures on Les. It's unimaginable.

Exactly how I felt about the Saints with Brooks.
Why did Haslett not see what everyone else saw?

Well to be honest, year 4 was a perfect year to insert the newly recruited "top rated JUCO qb in the country".

Poor talent evaluation and blind allegiance.

And it remained an elite program despite the four year mess...that's the amazing part.

Jarrett Lee finally played to his potential this year before the coaches gave up on him. Instead of sitting him against Bama, he should have gone out and lost the game for us, or won it.

Commitment to a single quarterback is necessary to avoid controversy.

Proper evaluation would have avoided this mess. It's the coach's fault, and no one else's. Our coaches are blinded by measurables and worry about addressing any weaknesses rather than fixing things to create strengths.

How does an elite program end up with players accepting free shoes?

How does an elite program, lose to ULM, Utah?

How does an elite program end up on probation?

How does an elite program lose 2 BCSNC games to the SEC in a 5 year period?

How does an elite program not make a bowl game?

How does an elite program have a child molester in its locker room?

How does an elite program get ranked in the top 25 preseason ever year and not finish in the top 25?

How does an elite program...

Well, lsu got a highly regarded JUCO transfer who was sitting there on the bench all year with no meaningful playing time. He was quickly declared 3rd string in the spring.

LSU also had a QB from Mississippi who left after a year or two. Forget his name.

JJ and JL like someone said were highly regarded QBs.

The great Hatch left.

It really has been a strange and sad few years for the QB position at LSU.

JL disaster as freshmen, JJ shows promise in bowl game freshman year but obvious no improvement for either guy as sophomore. Both guys then regress as Juniors. All the while we bring no one in.
