Leadership, and how most of you know nothing about it.

I am the leader of an organization, and I've learned a lot in this role that makes me more forgiving of coach Miles than many of you seem to be. Here are a few facts about leadership that I'd like for some of you to consider before you continue to pile on coach Miles:
1. Leaders care more about their organization than anyone else. - I know you think you care more about LSU football and wins and losses than coach Miles, but you don't. He's the one who has the most to win/lose, and he's the one who puts in the most time and emotional energy into this program. He didn't get to this position by not caring, and let me be clear... He wanted to win Monday night more than any single person in the world. Those of you claiming that he gave up or quit on the team have no clue what leaders face.
2. Leaders can't please everyone - Leadership comes with hard decisions... Lots of them. When you make tough decisions, people get hurt. You don't want to hurt them, but that's just a natural reality of being in leadership. People have overinflated views of themselves, and when you make a tough call that leaves them on the outside looking in, they become angry and hurt. It sucks, but that's what leaders are faced with, and the decisions have to be made regardless of whether or not people are hurt.
3. The organization is more important than the individual - I know this sounds harsh, but it's absolutely true. The minute you start making decisions to try to please individual interests, the more you'll compromise the organization as a whole. Individuals may not understand it, but the best interests of the organization must be the primary force behind any decision.
4. Leaders must trust their staff - There will be lots of noise from many within an organization, but at the end of the day the only voices that really matter are those on your staff. Leaders have to trust their closest advisers to help guide them and keep them on the right path. No leader stands alone, and it isn't possible to fully lead or control every aspect of an organization. A leader has to trust his staff not only to tell him the truth about the organization, but also to oversee important parts of the organization. With this in mind, the credit or blame for the rise or fall of any organization can't ever be placed solely on the leader.
5. Leaders learn more from failure than from success - Success breeds apathy and the tendency to rest on your laurels. Failure causes leaders to re-evaluate and examine their efforts so that mistakes are corrected. Everyone wants to win all the time, but failure is an important part of the process of success.
I know this doesn't excuse Coach Miles and the team for laying a huge egg Monday night, but it does help me look at this thing with some balance. Some of you are forgetting about these principles because you'd just rather run the Coach down because you're hurt. I understand your pain and frustration, because I felt it on Monday night too! I was yelling at the TV just as much as you. But it doesn't help you, Coach Miles, or the program for you to continue to throw this guy under the bus. All it does is divide the Tiger community and hurt the team and the coaches. Plus, it makes you a bitter and frustrated person, and life's too short to live your life that way.
I know you're going to hammer me over this, so go ahead. Beat the crap out of this post if it makes you feel better. I don't really care what most of you think because you're behaving like whiners and generally low-rent people. Get over yourselves.

Being a leader of an Xbox online crew does not make you a leader of an organization.
I'm kidding.
All this will pass. Its shock, from a team that seemed destined and unbeatable losing in the manner in which they did.

Hmmm...so why did we see an individual put ahead of the organization on Monday??

It's alright. Go ahead. Let me have it if it makes you feel better. I'm still right.

bullshite apologist. Miles missed on the honesty, trust and character parts of leadership which are the most important elements. You are referring to management and aspects of leadership. You are also referring to cover-thy-arse by hiding behind "you just don't know what goes on behind the scenes". I've been there many times. There is a way to do both, and that is without question.

If this was just laying an egg it would have already settled.
It's about going back to exactly the reason we wanted Crowton gone. It's about fking Lee who got us there. It's about being to stubburn to change course when its obviously the wrong way.
That's why everyone is pissed, nothing more.

Just b/c you or anyone else is a leader doesn't mean they are good at it.

wait...you're being serious? You wrote a serious cliff note on leadership? For the Rant?
All the leadership in the world wasnt going to complete a forward pass Monday.

A condescending title followed by a multi-paragraph post in which you talk down to the readers is a very poor way to get said readers to favorably consider the thoughts and arguments you present in said post.
One would think that a wise and most-exaulted leader of men and women such as you would know that already. Go figure...
