Every reasonable football observer KNEW that that the Offense had big time problems after the Arky game and GA game. MILES FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THE FOOTBALL PROBLEM BEFORE HIM. Now that his lack of insight has resulted in this catasrophic system failure and collapse, he MAY address the problem and try to solve it.

Seriously, who watched the UGA game and didn't immediately believe Saban was already going to school on it? Not that he needed it, let's be real. What D in the top-20 fears an offense led by #9 and his inept passing if he finds a wide open receiver, continuing bumbled center exchanges, below average "option" execution, etc? That is what it is, and the offense steadily decreased in total effectiveness with him as a starter.

It is unreal that a guy that led the team to 8-0 as a senior would get zero real snaps the last three games.

Does anybody think we blow out the first 8 teams with JJ as QB? I actually think JL made the D better because they had confidence that the O could score.

This is what i mean about bashing JJ to promote JL. this is freaking unbeLEEable. who cares about the first 8 games!! The game i care about was the last one and obvious JL couldn't help us there. He was so bad against bama he barely played against freaking Western kentucky

The fact that we were able to push Georgia around in the 2nd half probably validated the game plan and gave them no reason to adjust too much.

Maybe true for the fans, but this could never be an excuse for a coaching staff. They had to see the issues. Miles can be stubborn and arrogant. Anyone that couldn't see this offense had returned to 2010 form after JJ's return wasn't looking. I'm just glad Miles has to give us something new to complain about next year...when we may be even better.

Agree with this post entirely.

The focus was on the result of that game, not the process, so we didn't change. UGA was the warning sign, and it was ignored.

The warning signs have been there for years, UGA just confirmed it

The Honey Badger's performance made us forget how bad the offense was in the first half of the SEC title game

I told my Bama friend at work on Monday morning that I think the Honey badger's early 2nd half heroics might cost us the MNC. Obviously, he looked at me strange.

I said, "well, I really believe that JJ had actually played poorly enough for JL to be brought in but when we were put in such great shape, Miles ran JJ back out there".

From there, we were fricked.

Sorry Nostradamus, I didn't realize you were still alive. It is sooooooo cool to get to speak to you. Since you know everything, can you give us LSU fans some insight on what our record will be next season

wrong. we scored a TD before TM7 returned the punt for a tD., then JJ led us to another before the half. Lee shoulda played in the second quarter against UGA regardless. miles really screwed the pooch. our d, special teams and run game hid the passing from JJ. lee's passing was efficient early on especially his play action based off of the run game. he also hit many deep shots for scores. not giving him a try in the NC was INSANITY!

ETA: however that was against ARKY and NOT bama. big difference and clearly les i cannot see for miles did not see it.

I agree-fools gold. Even against Ark. It was the same thing for most of the 1st half. A penalty and TM7 got us going.

And I will NEVER EVER understand why Lee didn't get a chance.

CLMs personal agenda is the reason JL did not play against Georgia or Alabama. Miles let his personal feelings about a person superceed what could benefit the team. This realization is probably why he in seclusion. We can only hope CLM learns from his mistakes.

Good post but the problem is deeper IMO. A pattern emerged this season, in every game it took the defense from 1 to 2 quarters to figure out the other offense and essentially shut it down. In the first 8 games, with a more balanced offense, LSU trailed only once, against Oregon. After the Bama game, JJ starting, the defense was the same but our ability to get a lead was compromised and it got worse as the competition improved, culminating in the Georgia 1st half debacle. Against a solid, well conditioned defense the offense collapsed, because JJ can't pass. If Miles doesn't understand this then we may be in trouble down the road.

Good point..

Once Les decided to bench JL and go with JJ the
possibility of altering the offense was out of
the question. JJ was barely handling what we had in place ie. first half at SECCG.

Everybody needs to Just man up and give bama there damn credit. Les a good coach but he not good enough 2 change the stragety of a team thats 13-0 for one game against an opponent we beat already.

Actually, the team changed the offensive strategy an identify when Jefferson returned. Before that, with Lee, we had a very different downfield passing attack with timing throws and quick release. This made the defenses defend the whole field, which made the running game much more effective.

After Jefferson returned the timing passing attack was scrapped. Jefferson took some shots downfield and threw some good passes, but will only begin a pass when he can already see an open receiver. That makes the passing attack very slow to develop. That makes him vulnerable to pressure from a good D line. That makes him scramble. He then stops looking downfield. Then our offensive production dries up.

dude our offensive production shot up when JJ took over. Don't believe me check the damn stats. we had a couple of our better offensive games every

If you look at stats before the first Bama game JL led offense averaged 39.25 pts per game in 8 games against 5 ranked op. After the first bama game JJ averaged 39.60 pts per game in 5 games against 3 ranked op. Yeah production really shot up.

I don't think anyone outside of perhaps Les Miles alone will ever be able to explain why Jarrett Lee did not go into the SEC Championship Game after multiple first half series on offense failed to produce a first down and the same for the BCS CG. I for one would never have continued to play JJ going back to his Sophomore season. Lee has always been a better passer and like Matt Flynn, has NFL potential. Our offense struggled a little bit against ARK under JJ. Think about it, under JL over the span of 8 games against 6 top 25 ranked opponents, the Tigers trailed on the scoreboard a total of 6 minutes. If you look at the games started by JJ this season, the Tigers were behind for a lot more of the game. The Offense under JJ has never moved as fluidly as it did under Lee. Even when Lee was throwing interceptions as almost all SEC starting Freshman do, he still kept the Offense moving and scoring. Go back and look at his Freshman season and you will see that I am correct. The offense under JJ has never been consistent because he is not consistent. He holds the ball too long in the pocket, he does not pressure the DE on options, he keeps when he should pitch it too often, he often scrambles and you can't tell when or if he is going to run or pass it. He is too slow of a decision maker for the QB position in game circumstances. And, he does not and never has been able to pass the ball with touch. He has an incredible fast ball. But, it takes a lot more than that to be a really good QB.

The rest of the offense made tons of mistakes in the BCS CG game as well, leading to a miserable overall offensive performance. But, if Tyrann had not sparked a huge turnaround in the GA game and the ARK game(in my opinion), the weakness of the offense under JJ would have been more obvious and perhaps the coaches would have planned better.

Regardless of how JJ played or how the other Offensive players played, not having a back up plan to put Jarrett into both games backfired. The BCS game may have been a completely different story if Lee had been running things.

Do yourself favor and go back and watch the first Bama game. When Lee was in the game before the two interceptions, you will see an up-tempo offense that looks like it did much of the season. We looked like we could break out at any moment and start moving the ball and winning. But in comes JJ and again the O looks "herky-Jerky" .

I am so glad JJ is gone. I wish him well in the rest of his life. And I am proud of his service and commitment to the team. But, man it was hard to watch for the past 3+ years.

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but Les Miles' unnatural love & loyalty to JJ is the answer to this question.

It's bizarre. Surreal. People swore Miles wouldn't ride JJ in a losing effort yet he did. If not Lee, then Mettenberger.

Yep, up until the middle of the second period, the offense was horrible in the Arkansas game.
