Do we overcomplicate position assignments?

Why is it that we like to recruit players and shuffle them around to other positions that they don't normally play? Russel Shep is a prime example. Highly touted recruit, and yet he has practically been a non factor his entire LSU career (or at least he certainly hasn't lived up to expectation, through no fault of his own).

Why can't we just let a recruit that is a QB play QB? Why do we HAVE TO move them to some other obscure position?

I detest the position "ATH" and it seems that is exactly what we look for in our QB's (IE: Jefferson and Perrilloux). We won our championships with pocket passers who didn't make one read then take off on a whim.

Is there any chance we let the players we recruit play the position we originally recruited them at, because it's disheartening to see a player like Shep go to complete waste b/c a coach insists on playing him at another position.

Shep asked to change positions.

JJ was a pro style passer coming out HS. Do you detest Mo Claiborne or Odell Beckham? They were both athletes.

So is this a thread to just bitch about 1 player?

Actually, I think it's a thread to bitch about 1 coach.

And I am completely disheartened at the way Mo C was moved from WR to corner. Sucks for him.

Corey Webster was recruited as a WR
Early Doucet was a QB in HS
Joseph Barksdale was a DL in HS
Jacob Hester was supposed to be a FB
Quinn Johnson was recruited as a LB
Jack Hunt came in as WR
Devery Henderson was recruited as a RB

All are in the NFL at the position they were converted to. Happens all the time and not just at LSU.

Of course he did. You think he was ever going to get a fair shot at QB while Jefferson was here?

You can NOT be serious?????

You realize he is about to go make 10 million a year for the next 10 years of his life because this postion change!!!!!

Not only that but it was best for the team not just his NFL stock, he was able to contribute more to the team!

This was by far the best decision of his life not just football career!

He wanted to play from day 1. He wanted to play in the NFL. It was only logical of him to switch.
