Undefeated SEC Champs, on top of their game, and a ton of swagger. Then they went to the title game and got absolutely embarrassed by Nebraska, 62-24. Tommy Frazier ran all over them, and all that swagger went down the drain.

The next year (1996) they won the SEC again and destroyed #1Fla St, 52-20, for the National Championship.

I remember UF fans spewing all kinds of crap about Spurrier after that 1995 debacle. "Horrible game plan..." "Out coached..." "No heart..." "Team and coaches quit..."

They learned and corrected, and they came back the next year and finished the deal.

This team will be back, people. Next year could be special.

We had a great year. There was a major blunder in the end, but we beat Bama in their back yard. We'll get em next year. We have a lot to look forward to in the future.

So you're telling me that Les is going to shite can his O.C, completely change his offensive philosophy, hire one of the brightest young offensive minds in college football, and give that guy complete control over the offense??

If so,

Yeah Spurrier realized he needed to play defense as well as offense and hired Bob Stoops. Lets see is less can learn the same lesson with a 180 degree twist, play offense to go along with the defense. Hey Les, there is this new twist in the game of football called the forward pass. Maybe you should check it out.

Very nice example. Also, reminds me of Duke and Coach K getting hammered by 30 in the final four by unlv. Next year they beat unlv and won it all.

Thanks, Tenacious. We certainly needed a little optimism today.

I went to all of the home games at UF that season. That was one hell of a great football team.

Possible but, Mett had better play a lot better than Jefferson.

I think we all wanted the title this year. But hey, it didn't happen. Quit whining about it, you sound like this:

Let's also remember that the 1996 Florida team had Danny Wuerffel, Fred Taylor, Ike Hilliard, Reidel Anthony, and Jaquez Green.

Not to mention a head coach named Steve Spurrier.

For those that have forgotten, Danny Wuerffel was widely considered to have had the best season a college quarterback had ever had up to that point.

I'm not trying to take away from the 2012 Tigers, but that Florida team was pretty darn talented.

Wiki write-up on the 96 LSU/Florida game:

quote:

With Florida winning so convincingly all season, the next two weeks might have proved a challenge for the Gators, with #12 LSU and #16 Auburn coming to town. It was business as usual for the Gators. LSU came in undefeated on the campaign and featured an offense that scored 38 points per game. Florida, however, was not thinking upset, as Danny Wuerffell threw three touchdowns, two of them to Ike Hilliard, and ran for another score as the Gators proved to have the better offense. Their defense came to play as well as they forced two turnovers and recorded 7 sacks and held the LSU offense to just 28 rushing yards. In the end, the Gators proved themselves worthy of the #1 ranking as they thumped the Tigers 56-13.

Not with ignorant coaching decisions and horrible game preparation.

This year could have been special and we blew it.
