Well he may be the kind of DC they need since winning won't be so emphasized at Penn St for a while. Good luck to Roof on his new gig.

They probably cant get any big name coaches in there either. I know I wouldn't even consider coaching or playing there right now.

he is a solid recruiter and I think he has the potential to be a solid DC when running his schemes. You have to remember that he is a blitz happy guy who relies on turnovers and he was forced to run a Tampa 2 zone with very little blitzing.

I am curious to see how he would do when given the chance to do his own schemes with talent.

well, their fans were too dumb to understand why JoePa had to go so I'd imagine they would also be too dumb to understand why no major names want to go there right now.

He's been coaching at the coordinator level or higher for 10 years now. Not one single top 20 defense on his resume.

How long does it take to field a competent defense?

Chizik had a top 20 defense at UCF...

look at the list of schools he has been DC at though. Duke, Minnesota and yes, Auburn. He improved all but at Auburn when running his schemes, now give him talent and the ability to run his own defenses and he might be a solid hire, especially as a stop over to get them through a few years.

We get it. It takes a fricking miracle for Ted Roof to coach a top 50 defense. And some people love to throw out excuses of why he can't do it. Somehow other DCs are able to do that at smaller schools though, but woe is Roof and all the bad hands he has been dealt. Poor guy can never catch a break.

It's amazing the lengths some Auburn fans have gone through to defend a guy that has a single top 50 scoring defense on his resume. Is it that hard to land slightly above the .500 national ranking mark of D1 teams???
