Searched and didnt see anything posted on this yet. Just thought it was interesting that the league is saying it should have been Saints ball and this guy claims it should have been a Lions td.

quote:

The turnover was big for the Lions but could have been bigger. Had the whistle never blown, Detroit would have picked up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead. Instead, the Lions went three-and-out on the subsequent possession. That early whistle cost the Lions seven points.

Your thoughts...Do the Saints win if Detroit scores a TD on that fumble?

Every forum I go to all I see his handwringing about how the refs just screwed the Lions with that call and the non calls on holding.

The butthurt is strong. Very strong.

would that hypothetical fumble/td cause the saints to not score 5 tds in 5 possessions in the 2nd half?

No way in hell they win. Doe the 35 points we scored in the second half somehow not happen because the Lions have 7 extra points? Not to mention the fact that we had the ball on the 2 yard line and were kneeling the clock out. That could have been 42 second half points and this guy is complaining about 7?

OK fine, instead of 45-28 it would have been 52-35...is that any better?

It's being talked about in the league apology thread.

Pretty much, had there not been a whistle BEFORE the Lion player even touched the ball, a Saint would have been there to make a tackle. They quite when they heard the FIRST whistle.

In my opinion it was a fumble. Drew's arm wasn't coming forward. However, the referees blew the whistle after the ball landed just as they would for an incomplete pass. You can hear the whistle and see that our players are making no attempt for the ball because of the whistles. It was the referees fault for blowing the play dead before allowing someone to recover it. They should have ruled it a fumble and went from there with challenges, etc. But for this situation where the play was obviously blown dead it should have been Saints ball. They pretty much gave the Lions the ball for what they ruled as an incomplete pass by blowing the play dead.

I should add that i think the Saints would have won regardless. No one was going to stop us the other night except ourselves. Just wanted the opinion of the board and i thought this article was off base.

I agree... Yes it would have been 21-7

In my opinion... We STILL win that game

The Saints should have retained possession because of the early whistle. The Lions were lucky that the officials screwed up twice on that play, because they were given the ball.

And it's not the officials' fault that the Lions went 3 and out.

I just rewatched the video... That guy who wrote that article is a fricking idiot. He claims the whistle only stopped the return and not the recovery. bullshite... You can clearly hear the first whistle after the ball bounces BEFORE the recovery.

It was an obvious fumble, obvious to me after the replay. I can understand, at full speed, why the whistle was blown. However, one called a fumble, one blew the whistle for an incompletion. Maybe they score, maybe not. But the refs screwed up twice in one play. I doubt it changes the outcome of the game much.

If that whistle isnt blown - the saints dont give up on the play. Who says its a 100% TD considering 11 of the 11 saints players on the field stopped moving when the whistle went off....

Stupid writer is stupid.

The league has admitted this was a bad call and it should have stayed NO ball.

The is ZERO chance that the Lions would have returned that back for a touchdown. The entire offensive line and the nearest Saints receiver to the ball were all just walking back to the huddle. Had the ball been live, the Lions defender would have had to break about 5 tackles to make a return.

Somebody has to act as the Attorney/Representative of the ATL Falcon Fans in this thread, so, here is their position on this issue:

The NFL Conspiracy Katrina Refs strike again by handing the game to the Saints. The Katrina Refs robbed the Lions of a TD and a win.

All of the other teams in the NFL, besides the Falcons, are sick of the NFL Conspriacy Katrina Refs and the Saints, and the Saints will get what's coming to them.

Even the lions player that picked up the ball was halfheartedly going after it, as were most of the other lions.
