Did Avery Johnson really burn De'Anthony Thomas in a foot race at USC?

I read it in another thread earlier today and was wondering how much truth there is to that statement? De'Anthony is a fricken blazer, dude is just flatout sick fast...so it's just seems crazy to think Avery "smoked" him in a foot race!

Apparently, because everyone on this board who hypes him up mentions this before anything else.

I've seen almost all of Avery's highlights and to me there is just no way he is in the same class of speed as De'Anthony Thomas. He is a great WR no doubt, but talking strictly speed, I'd almost have to see it to believe it.

Apparently but I don't believe it. I agree, he looks like a possession WR on film.

I believe what originally happened is that Johnson burnt Thomas on a long TD pass in a 7 on 7 tourney. He may have had an angle or something to beat him to the endzone after the catch. This has grown into Johnson burning Thomas in a foot race somehow

You are "Correct"...TulaneTigerFan...some people like to make that bigger than what it was initially. Avery Johnson is a ballplayer. LSU coaches will get him up to par and he will be excited to contribute to the team. Patrick Petersen will also be in his ear from afar, no doubt.

Here is your evidence:

TulaneTiger is correct. He smoked Thomas in 7 on 7. He isn't as fast as Thomas. Avery is faster than he gets credit for but more out of pads than in. No one has questioned the talent Avery has because he's immensely talented. It's the fact that he doesn't always show up or bring it all the time. Our coaches will fix that when he gets on campus.

He talks the talk and once he's a Tiger he will be able to walk the walk.

LSU commit Avery Johnson says no doubt, Tigers will win national title over Alabama

Avery Johnson has a prediction for Monday’s national championship contest.

LSU 17, Alabama 14.

It’s no surprise that the Pompano Beach Ely star receiver is backing the Tigers. After all, he’s been committed to LSU since September.

That’s September of 2010.

With that level of dedication comes serious pride.

quote:

“I can’t wait until that football game,” Johnson said. “It’s going to be a hard-fought game, but I think there’s going to be a little more points scored than last time. I think the Tigers will come out on top.”

Johnson has been an ardent LSU supporter for years now. He wasn’t born on the bayou, but family ties to the Tigers helped form a strong allegiance to the program.

His brother, Arizona Cardinals cornerback rookie sensation Patrick Peterson, went to LSU and it’s a large reason why Johnson has been committed to the Tigers for more than a year.

“He didn’t tell me to go there, but he had something to do with it,” Johnson said of his brother.
