I apologize if this has already been posted:

While I might agree that the BCS doesn't always get it correct, it's pretty clear that the two best teams this year ARE Bama and LSU. Sorry, Frank, you're incorrect this time.

He really mailed that one in - is this what qualifies as a column these days? I know the guy's got gravitas oozing out of his *ss, but that was weak.

There's ample room for some valid arguments against the BCS. He should have made them. Instead he rambled on for a few short paragraphs and hit send.

Weak.

The frick? 13-0, with our schedule, is not "earning the right"?

With that pencil mustache, Deford looks like that dude that ties a damsel in distress to the railroad tracks. Oh, and this article is pandering and it's a bad take.

He's incorrect most times these days. He's fallen into the "Get off my lawn!"

This dude looks like either a cartoon villian or an extra on the Munsters...I love watching him on Real Sports and he insists on wearing the starched shirts and 3 piece suits while walking around a jr. high football field somewhere in June sweating his arse off.

Y'all are a sensitive bunch - he didn't say that any team deserved to be there over LSU - all he is saying is that who can say what teams "deserve" it without a playoff?

It's not an anti-LSU article, it's an anti-BCS article. I know tension is getting high later in the week, but relax.

This is just showing off.

Also, he wrote the novel "Everybody's All-American".

Read to me like it was a pro play-off article as well.

Note to Frank Deford...if you do nto care about the BCS as you claim, then why are you wasting time writing about it?

I don't remember Diogenes.

Not everyone's as old as you, Frank.

Stopped reading at "remember Diogenes?" Two is about my limit for references to antiquity in pretentious sports articles.

Oh, I agree. I just thought the line about BOTH TEAMS getting there "without earning the right" was a bit ridiculous when applied to the present scenario and the article was a bit lazily conceived, at best.

I don't think it was meant as a slam on LSU, though.

uhh, pretty sure that's not the case as everyone on here refers to it as the MNC

I hope you enjoy watching the arranged marriage that the BCS is putting on Tuesday.

Is the game Tuesday?

So going undefeated, beating two conference champions that have beaten two other conference champions, winning by double digits in all games but one, winning your conference championship game by 32, having the highest points per game average in the toughest defensive conference, and LSU hasn't "earned the right" Geezsh

I think I adamantly disagree with 98% of his little rants on Wednesday mornings. The other 2% I'm indifferent about or just disagree a little bit.

I took the piece as more whimsical than weak. There are certainly much better pro-playoff arguments, but they have been made so many times. why make them again? I am extremely pro-playoff and I like to point out that we already have a playoff, just a bad one. It is a one game, two team playoff with the participants selected by about as bizarre and unaccountable a selection committee as could be imagined. LSU's selection happened to be obvious this year, while Bama's was much less so.
