Scored by Oregon and West Virginia in the Rose and Orange bowls. Penn State, Alabama's only non-conference bowl opponent, scored 14 points vs. Houston in the Ticketcity Bowl. That's why you can't look at the defensive statistics as though they are apples to apples.

In games versus common opponents (MSU, OM, Arky, Auburn, UF, and UTk) and not counting the game against one another, LSU and Bama are basically the same in points scored:

LSU gave up 9 points/game

Bama gave up 9.7 points/game

The thing to remember is LSU gave up garbage points to Auburn with 3rd stringers in the game. They got a TD then. Bama plays their starters on defense nearly every game to pump up their stats.

In the end, both are very good defenses, but neither is "Better" IMO. LSU gives up more yards, but forces more turnovers:

Turnovers/game

LSU = 2.33
BAMA = 1.67

So LSU forced 40% more turnovers and gave up 30% more yards (223.7 ypg vs 172 ypg)
