I am starting agree. This was bullshite airing his laundry like this. I knew he came from a rough spot, but jesus. It is inspiring to know what a dedicated human being come overcome though. Go TM7. Another thing, how did the naked picture leak never even get discussed on here. I had no idea that happened. If there is one thing i would be ok with them confirming it would be that i have a 13 inch dong.

Great article. This young man has been through alot. Thank God for his grandfather, aunt, and uncle or he may have been just another dead or incarcerated inner city youth.

His biological father was a real POS. How the hell did two people on that jury voted to acquit him?

It's not a very well written story -- it includes a choppy narrative spliced with awkwardly placed quotes -- which is a shame because the story of Tyrann Matthieu's life is remarkable. Anyone who doesn't feel amazement at his story or empathy for many youths in the inner city who are raised in similar situations is lacking an essential piece of humanity.

I'm surprised no one did a national TM biographic piece leading up to the Heisman ceremony. The Times Picayune especially dropped the ball on this amazing and repeated story of the youth of New Orleans.

Good read, didn't realize his family life was that terrible. He has made some mistakes, but he is still very young. Hopefully his life experiences and the good family members in his life help him to break the cycle.

quote:

"He wasn't no bad person," Tyra Mathieu said of Hayes. "I don't look at him like that. We all get caught up at times."
fricking typical.

I hope he goes the frick off and gets NC MVP. Not just for us, but for him.
That fire in his belly fuels this whole team. Props to him for using it constructively.

I met the pastor of St. Aug through some friends last year. He is a great guy. He started laughing when people talked of Tyrann. He has this great carribean accent.

"Dey say it takes a village to raise a child. With dat one, it took de WHOLE village."

he was so proud that they were able to get him to college. you could see it beaming off of his face.

Great story and very insightful to his life. I didn't understand the need to throw out the nude photo comment with the Heisman trophy show. Never even heard that and it didn't contribute to this article about his life at all.

The story was exploitative but my respect for TM7 has shot up. Reading the account of his grandfather's last words was bone-chilling. It's as if God stepped in and gave him the strength to say those words.

TM7 overcomes adversity and knows what's important in life. Great respect for this young man.

Even after he dominated their camps, Alabama coach Nick Saban and then-Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin declined to offer him a scholarship. They thought Mathieu was too small to play in the SEC.

Eventually, LSU offered Mathieu a scholarship, which he accepted the summer before his senior year.

That's a soap opera. Sad that he had to grow up like that and have such horrible biological parents.

Pork and Beans done stole Cornbreads woman while is was in jail, but he still had his bottom.

I didn't think it was possible to give TM7 more respect for what he's accomplished to date.

This seems even more appropriate now even down to the point that he's alone in the center of Death Valley.

On a side note, that Bama 1985 may just be the biggest douche I've encountered on the internet in a LONG time. If I could reach thru the screen, I'd knock out his last tooth.

While I agree that the article could have been better written, we need to remember that a lot of that information is probably part of the public record somewhere even though it reads like a movie script. However, I am very glad TM7 has been able to overcome problems that (thankfully) most of us will never have to endure and will probably never fully comprehend. And I think a big part of his ability to do that can be attributed to his Grandparent, and his Aunt & Uncle and how they raised him. Thanks to those who gave more insights into the character of Tyrann's "real" parents--his aunt & uncle. They have every right to be extremely proud of their son!
