The Idea of Retro-Income Taxation

1988,1991,1992,1994,1995,1998-2001,2005....are safe years

If you filed in any other year between 1980-2010, you owe more than you paid.

Your share of the national debt is equivalent to what tax rates would have needed to be adjusted to , to bring revenue=cost that given year.

if you were at the 17% bracket and another was at a 23% bracket, then a 10% increase to tax rates that year would bring you up to a 18.7% and the other to 25.3%...of your Income for that year.

A bit of research would have to be done on filings to see how much %tax rate increase would be necessary each individual year, but all is available in the IRS database and not much effort.

The idea behind this is that those responsible for the accrual of the debt should be held responsible for the debt.

Before you say it's wrong to back tax people, do you think it's right that they now get to push the burden down to others instead?

A lien is put onto your estate until the debt is repaid.

So all the governments spending in a given year were constitutional, neccessary expenditures? And you want me to retroactively pay for that abuse, excuse me...allocation, of funds, because you don't think I was taxed enough when the abuse occured?

The federal governments debt is not my debt. Only in the sense that I use their currency. Which won't be worth much for much longer.

Or maybe the government can stop wasting money and/or you GFY.

How about we just get rid of the income tax, like before 1913, and be done with all of this b.s.

Congressional members don't have that kind of money in reality, those receiving entitlements and transfer payments make up a majority of the budget. Don't think you'll collect from them either.

Works for SSA and MEDI.

When you max out your credit card, do you run to your employer and tell him/her that he/she needs to retroactively adjust your salary to cover your debt?

re: The Idea of Retro-Income Taxation

So the plan now is that:

1. Decrease spending
2. Maintain Higher taxes so that we can try to pay down someone else's debt

I can see why that's a better idea

re: The Idea of Retro-Income Taxation

So, you want to force law abiding citizens who played by the rules at the time, paid the taxes they owed, and go back as far as 30+ years & force them to pay more in taxes, because now you feel they didn't pay enough at the time? And if they don't pay, you're gonna take their property? You see nothing wrong with scenario? This may be the most fricking retarded proposal I have ever heard.

and when you finish with the back taxes owed to people, lets charge them the cost of the IRS to figure this back tax out. Just figure who many more government workers we can hire to do this enforcement it will just grow and grow until.....

or how about cutting all federal government spending by 25% across the board every year until the debt is zeroed out.

re: The Idea of Retro-Income Taxation

Irs has 3 years from the date you file your return or 3 years from april 15th of the year following the taxable year to audit or adjust your returns. After that, the statute of limitations has run. You cannot retroactively change a statute of limitation...this will never ever ever ever happen. Sorry.
