How Good of a Job Did Hoke Do? Could Les Have Done The Same at UM?

Hoke took a team that was horrible on defense. The defense got better. The same team virtually went 7-6 last season and now they win a BCS Bowl and finish 11-2.

Could Les have done what Hoke did? Do you think Les can win with personnel that is different from personnel he would recruit?

A sizable number of LSU fans (and an arse-ton of Bammers) would say he already did...

tOSU taking a nose dive into a concrete pond helped Michigan a lot.

He ran a little league offense. Put his best athlete at QB and let him run around until something good happens. If he knew what a spy was he would've won in regulation.

Well OSU got a slap on the wrist and hired one of the most successful coaches in college football. Even with that, I believe Hoke and UM will be better than Meyer and OSU. I'm calling it now!

rich rod would have done just as well, which is one of the main reasons he was pushing so hard for one more year; he knew this years schedule was cake.

8 freaking home games, ohio state at home, notre dame at home.

Well someone has forgotten the "can't win without Saban's players" line.

No chance in hell would that defense had been nearly as good if Dicky was still there.

I really don't see Michigan winning the ND game with Rich Rod.

Was the D even that great?

Total Offensive ranks of teams beaten:

19 W.Mich
37 Notre Dame
93 E. Mich
32 SDST
110 Minnesota
35 Northwestern
71 Purdue
87 Illinois
66 Nebraska
107 Ohio State
33 Virginia Tech

so...Western Michigan is the only top 30 offense they beat. 5 teams in the top 60

Mattison is a beast and as long as he is here we'll always be a stout defensive team.

Borges on the other hand is absolutely AWFUL in every way possible. I just hope Hoke has the balls to fire his arse when it becomes obvious to everybody not just Michigan fans

yeah i strongly believe michigan only played three teams with any semblance of athletic ability and gave up 31, 28, and 34. the dramatic defensive improvement of michigan this season is exaggerated.

I actually like Borges. I think Borges will shine once the spread personnel graduates.

yeah hoke had a brilliant game plan that day.

being down 17 in the 4th Qtr, giving up 315 yards passing to a slapdick QB in tommy rees and over 500 total yards was a strong strategy to win.

rich rod would have done just as well that game as UM was destined to win; he had NDs number most years.

Our offense regressed immensely this year. I wish their were yards per play stats for shot gun vs under center I bet it would be absolutely staggering.

The old pro-style stuff just doesn't work anymore unless you have an All American QB like Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson + a dominant OL in which case any offense will work.

If Denard Robinson had any semblance of a passing ability, this team could be legit. He's one hell of an athlete, but his biggest asset is the threat to run, the passing game is still shitty for the most part.
