Anyone pursued CAIA designation?

I'm considering signing up for this and wanted to weigh the differences between CAIA and CFA. Obviously the CFA is the prime designation in the financial industry, but for someone that works/wants to work in the alternative investments industry the CAIA certainly has some advantages.
- better covers hedge funds and private equity (my main interest)
- only 2 tests
- higher pass rates
My company will sponsor me to take any designation I want to pursue as long as I pass Series 7, which I am taking in the next couple months. Seems like a no-brainer to at least give this a shot. Anyone taken this before or even considered it?

It is less material and generally easier than the CFA. I haven't done it, but I know several people with it.
I generally see it as a private equity geared certification, just based on the people that I have known with the designation.

Personally don't think it has much value add and don't think people really care about it, buy side or otherwise. We do a ton of work with private equity firms, don't think I've ever noticed anyone with it.

I think it's more useful for front office, customer relations types. I saw it a lot when I worked in asset management.
It's definitely CFA light and is not viewed in the same light. However, you won't spend 1000+ hours studying to get it.

Right, I don't think it's very common. It started in 03 and there are only 5,000 globally compared to ~100,000 CFAs. I want to do CFA eventually, maybe when I go back to school. I just don't think I have the time right now that I'll need to commit to it. My degree isn't in finance in the first place, so I would like to get some more classes under my belt first.

Not a bad plan at all.
I imagine having CAIA would be impressive to the academic community. It may be worth it just for that, if you are looking to go back to school.

IDK, I fail to see the value add personally.
