Can someone explain how this works? If Brees beat Rogers in everything, but run and penalty epa than how does he win? What is the formula to determine?

ACT plays the deciding factor?

I understood that part as having a higher clutch weight as better. I don't understand this at all

i don't know. You may be right, who gives a crap about espn's qbr.

"It's all apart of the plan" says Special Agent Oso, ESPN's own scheming sun bear.
Step 1: Create a completely flawed statistic.
Step 2: Allow this statistic to benefit ESPN's favorite QB, Aaron Rodgers.
Step 3: Hand the MVP award to Aaron Rodgers, the second best qb in the league behind Drew Brees.
SUCCESS!

ESPN QBR is about as valid as the Better Home and Gardens QBR which is only slightly better than the Vogue Magazine QBR.

For the Record, the QBR gives a more narrow gap of 85.2 and 84.0 than the other passer rating does of 122.5 and 110.6.

The CptRusty QBR gives Brees a score of eleventy-billion, and Rodgers only 10 hundred thousandths.
Brees is obviously superior, although I must admit his numbers are inflated by his unparalleled Who-Dattitude.

espn is merging with tmz methinks

Arrogance and doushiness (sp?) are variables in the QBR formula. Obviously, Drew is lacking in both of these things while Rodgers has an abundance of them...thus Rodgers should win the MVP.

This makes no sense. And I am kind of surprised by the huge gap between Brees and ESPN God Brady.
ETA: I noticed Schaubs low Total EPA but high QBR and realized they must divide EPA by ACT Plays in some fashion.
A rough calculation shows that:
Rodgers-0.1715
Brees-0.1793
Brady-0.1453
Ok, so this explains the gap between Brees and Brady but Brees should be higher than Rodgers with this logic.

Uhhhh you used the word "logic" pertaining to something done by ESPN in relation to the Saints.....uhhhhhh There can be no logic applied by ESPN where it comes to the Saints...Therefore proving the frickery afoot at the mouse-ear sports station

I think I remember some of the pundits pushing this stat at the beginning of the season as the "next big thing" and that it would eventually replace passer rating as THE measure of a QB's performance.
It is very interesting to note that John Skelton rates ahead of Arizona's highly paid offseason acquisition, Kevin Kolb (I never understood all the love for that guy when he had played in a total of seven games or so). He's also ahead of Mark Sanchez (how is this guy still starting?!) and Sam Bradford, big-name 1st rounders making tens of millions more than him. Skelton was a fifth round pick out of Fordham, and his QBR is essentially even with Colt McCoy, the 2nd rounder out of Texas. And remember, he had to come in to relieve Kolb after an injury so he didn't get the benefit of practicing with the first team and all that comes with being the starter during camp.
FYI - Skelton gets paid $500,000 a year. Kolb, the guy he backs up and outplayed this year, gets paid $12 million a year. Other fun numbers: Sanchez gets a little over $10 million a year and Bradford $12.5 million a year. Colt McCoy only makes $1.2 million a year.

ESPN is dumb as shite, this is much more insightful. Have they offered you a job as an "analyst" yet? Maybe therapist? Analrapist?

No. I was unable to say the words "Tebow" or "Cowboys" enough times in one hour to satisfy their minimum quota. After the Tony Romo suck-a-thon (simulated of course) my throat and jaw were rather fatigued

I also assumed the total and actual had to be the key component here, but didn't take the time to do the math. There system makes even less sense now!

You didn't mention Drew Brees's name did you? I hear that's grounds for automatic dismissal from tryouts.
And mentioning anything about records broken by the Saints franchise gets you escorted out by security.

And rightfully so. Rodgers had basically the same TDs and less than half the INTs that Brees did.
He also had a better YPA, better TDs/Attempt, and better INTs/Attepmt.
Brees got more yards entirely based on the volume of passes he threw:
Rodgers = 33.5 attempts/game
Brees = 41.1 attemps/game
That means Brees threw nearly 23% more passes per game. You'd think he'd put up better yards than Rodgers.
Rodgers has been a better passer all season and deserves the accolades. Both are the MVP in my opinion, but trying to act like Brees was a better QB than Rodgers this year is absurd.
