I would love it too but we have no chance. Elite coordinators don't choose to work for Saban when they have other options. Our OC will be a relatively small name that runs an offense similar to what we run now.

Only way we get a guy like Linehan is to offer Malzahn money and an absolute promise by Saban that he will have complete play calling freedom.

Why would he even leave his position with Detroit?

No reason at all other than better money possibly. I don't see this as realistic.

I know he coached with Coach Saban in Miami in 2005, but I don't see any other incentive to leave an OC position in the NFL for one in college. What kind of salary doe NFL OCs make? I can't see someone getting offered more than 750-800K at Alabama.

You're probably right. Why can't we have an offense like what Wisconsin had under Paul Chryst? They have a great running game but can plays throwing the ball when they have to even with Tolzien and some of the other QBs they had in the past.

Paul Chryst was an unknown, until his success at Wisconsin. His two stints as Oregon State's OC and a couple years as Wisconsin's TEs coach didn't endear him to college football fans. Those powerful offenses since 2006 have. Jim McElwain didn't come to Alabama with a big name, but he became pretty popular the last couple of years because of the consistency Alabama saw on offense. Alabama doesn't have to hire some flashy name to have success on offense. Coach Saban will hire an OC that fits with the offensive philosophy and the staff that's in place.

He still had four years of experience as an OC for a division 1-A school. Weird thing about Paul Chryst was that his Oregon State teams was a pass heavy team that couldn't run the ball at all while he was there as OC. Oregon State was dead last in rushing during Chryst's final season with the Beavers. But they were 10th in passing offense in 2003 and 7th in passing offense in 2004. He revised his coaching philosophy to fit the offensive personnel on his team which is why he was such a great OC.

If you've seen what he's done in both Denver and St. Louis, no you don't... Dude doesn't know how to use a running back. He's a great QB coach, but always moves away from the run and sticks with passing. Denver's run game went to shite (nearly dead last, after being so great with Shanahan), and he under used Steven Jackson.

He's shown that he's capable of making pedestrian QBs look pretty good with Cassell and Orton

See post above...

Bama can have him.

That sounds exactly like Bama's 2010 offense. GMac threw for 3,000 yards last year. With Saban as coach and Bama's talent level, we don't need a superstar as OC. We just need someone who can develop a QB and have half a brain.

They still have parts of different offenses and have no identity.

The no identity thing can still fall on Harsin. One of things most talked about when he was being brought up for jobs last year was how he doesn't have an actual offensive system. He just installs plays. There is no overall theme to the way he coordinates the offense, so it's going to be tough for them the get an identity.

He threw for 2,987 yards. We've never had a 3,000 yard passer. That was a big issue when Coach Saban sat him in the third quarter against Michigan State.

One of the rumored candiates at Auburn...Connection to Grimes, our OLINE coach...

Dirk Koetter (born February 5, 1959) is an American football coach and former player in the United States. He is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the National Football League's Jacksonville Jaguars. He has held the offensive coordinator position since 2007. Koetter served as head football coach at Boise State University from 1998 to 2000 and at Arizona State University from 2001 to 2006, compiling a career college football record of 66–44.

Koetter was crap with the Jags. Jags fan here. However, Jack could have held him back.

The pros are a different animal, I think his college resume is strong and when added to his pro connections will help us.. Plus it will be nice for our Ocoordinator and Oline coach to agree on schemes, etc.
