sorry if this has been covered before; i couldn't find it. i guess i'm confused as to how many scholies we have left and it seem like miles might finish strong again. if we have 22 commits, do we have just 3 left? or can we finagle EE's to get more than 25?

No, we went on probation with a scholarship reduction. Hill did not enroll but Randall took that spot. So I do not think we can have any back counters. It will be a storyline leading up to NSD seeing how many people we take.

True, forgot he went JUCO, so that means we have one 1 that can backcount then? If I remember correctly we could have had 23 and only took 22?

so we can sign 26 if at least one is an EE. i hope we use them all as i have a feeling (and a hope) we might need 'em.

Interesting question and I'm not sure that an authoritative answer was given. Did we have scholarships left over from the 2011 class, and if so can it/they be allocated to EEs? That would be a coup!

and authoritative. i have just relieved myself of the burden of understanding this stuff. i'm just going to put it on the shelf with the stuff about quantum physics, cloud technology and how television works.

If some players turn pro early doesn't that help

Only in that we'd need less attrition to stay under 85 TOTAL.

Lewis going to JUCO doesn't matter because he still signed a LOI.

Last year we could have given 23 schollys. We had 24 that were potentially getting scholarships, but we actually only gave 22 because Lewis did not enroll and Cam Fordham (who was going to be an initial scholly recipient) left the team. So, we may be able to count one back.

I am definitely not sure about this and am purely speculating, but this is my best guess as to how the numbers work out.

Jenkins signed his LOI, just not on signing day. There was a huge ice/snow storm in the Dallas area on signing day and he didn't go to school, thus couldn't fax in his LOI. That was the only issue, there were no grade issues or otherwise.

Were there any 2011 signees that were EEs and counted back against 2010 number, giving us more room to have EEs count back this year to 2011 number?

EE can only be counted back if we played under the 85 this year. No one really knows exactly who is on scholarship or not and the coaching staff rarely releases that info.

But if we played under we can count that many back and still sign the 25 max on NSD.

Really and no rebuttal?

Many including myself up to a few days ago thought we had to play with 83 but according to the NCAA 22 page report that is not true. That ended last season.

To count back you have to have less than 85 in the previous year. True

EE don't sign a LOI on NSD... True

SEC has a new rule that I believe goes in effect this class where only 25 LOI can be signed on NSD. Over that would either have to be an EE or greyshirt.

quote:

Starting next year, SEC teams will be allowed to sign only 25 football players to a national letter-of-intent. The period that encompasses will be changed to Dec. 1 to May 31 and will include mid-year and summer enrollees as well.
