Since it looks like rooms require a 3 night minimum in NO for the game, can anyone enlighten me as to what to expect driving into NO the day of the game and leaving after the game.....

Should I expect worse than a Saints game? Would prefer to spend the night on the 9th, but have no interest in staying 3 days in NO. Wasn't able to make it for the last Championship Game so I have no clue what to expect.

thanks

I'd expect something like the Saints NFCCG a few years ago. There will be tens of thousands of people just watching the game on the streets surrounding the Dome. Bama will travel much better than both OU and OSU.

Check out the hotels in a couple days closer to the game. They are starting to pop up. All these agencies and what not that have package deals will drop their hotels that they don't sell.

Definitely expect worse than a Saints game. I would lean more towards Mardi Gras. I would try to get there around 6/7 in the morning. I would assume that they will start to shut down different roadways as the day progresses. When leaving the Superdome I would also expect to be caught up in traffic for a little while, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Will be worse then regular Saints game so be prepared for traffic in and out; I would park Tulane Ave. and huff it then get to I-10 after on Tulane.

Going to be a long day for my 14 year old (and for me). Since he is coming with me, I won't be able to frequent the bars (as i would if the wife were coming along). I guess i'll plan to get there early and maybe take in the WWII museum......that would kill some time i guess.

I think i will start checking the hotel sites daily to see if rooms begin to be dumped as we get closer to gameday.

I was able to get a two night stay at the Westin (8th and 9th) a few days ago. It was the only decent hotel I have seen come up and I jumped on it....$1000 for 2 nights, and NO buyers remorse.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think that leaving the game will be a whole lot worse than a Saints game. A good number of people down there will have hotel rooms, thus will be staying, and a lot of others will be partying after.

That said, I stayed the night downtown in 03 and 07 so I have nothing to base this off of other than assumptions. Someone that dealt with the traffic after those games would probably have a better perspective.
