TV Show Start Times

Cruising around the TV this morning and came across The Dick Van Dyke Show on TV Land (I enjoy good old comedies). I noticed the times for the show I'm currently watching are 8:44 to 9:16. WTF is that? Is a 30 minute block not enough time to bombard me with commercials?
Just a complaint. Almost as bad as when TBS used to do the 'start shows at 5 minutes after' crap they used to do: 9:05 - 9:35 etc.

I remember Friends being extended to 40 minutes and some BOD variety show taking up 20 minutes back when that show was insanely popular. It wasn't long before Friends went back to 30 minute shows.
