What a bunch of sore losers at ND. Irishenvy blog bashing Kiel for pick Lsu when they admit they only got 16 commits so far. Stuff like Lsu degree is worthless etc, all it really shows is how stupid and arrogant they are. Once you in the real world the paper on the wall means nothing either you produce or you don't.

Link or GTFO. Most of the Kiel thread I read was very respectful about the whole thing. when a few idiots took shots @ GK or LSU they self-policed their own quite well.

Oh shite, they so jelly!!!

I don't think anybody should feel put out by Kiel's actions. He looked at his options and made what he feels is the best decision for him. I am pretty sure Gunner Kiel expects to be an NFLer so the relative value of an LSU and ND degrees were probably not that important to him. LSU is one of the top teams in the most highly respected conference in the country so, I am pretty sure he will get the attention he needs. LSU has produced a #1 draft pick qb only a few of years ago so they can obviously develop talent down there. Best of luck to him.

:omg:

really? how so? I just don't get were they can think their degree is better than another schools degree. I'm a manager of engineering for a global company and when I look at resumes of engineers to hire, I never think "oh, they went to (name of school here)" and think they must be good because of were they went to school. Some of the best engineers we have came from Lamar in Beaumont.

I think one of the things that got in the way for Notre Dame is the fact that they hired three coaches that were 'blockbusters' according to them.

But their mega-hires kept floudering (Ha! Charlie Weis...Flounder..get it?). So it becomes apparent to college football fans and HS players that ND is on the denoument of its current football life.

Had Kiel gone to ND, he may have gone the way of:

Jimmy Clausen
Dayne Christ
Paulus (spelling)
etc.

They are all still good qb's. It's just that the entire team around them really, really sucks.

Again, I will say.

This is America, and state supported schools are terrific places to get an education; especially flagship univ's. ND overvalues their educations like Bama counts national titles.

How may CEO's actually went to ND (as if they were as prestigious as the Ivy League, Duke, Wake, etc)?

You have to prove to employers that you:

Went to class
Worked two jobs
Had a good time (you're awkward if you didn't)
Graduated with a 2.8 or better

Or in Gunner Kiel's place, he has to prove that he went to LSU to play superior competition in PRACTICE and the FIELD.

and preferably an internship in your field. hell, I wouldn't even interview me under the constraints we now have on new hires out of college Glad I got in when I did!

If Kiel picked ND I guarantee there would be posters on this board saying he will amount to nothing there and it is where "5 star QBs go to die." The ones that are saying it are just bitter that he picked LSU, it has nothing to do with arrogance.

Kiel said academics were a top priority and by picking LSU over ND and Vandy it gives the impression that academics were not as high an importance as he said.

think the thing that I really don't understand is why any young man capable of thinking out beyond five years would ever commit to an SEC school not named 'Vanderbilt' or possibly 'Florida' when he had the option to go to a school where a degree was at the minimum worth the paper it was printed on. Just for fun I was looking up the majors of kids in the SEC championship game as they were mentioned by the commentators. I got through twelve kids before I saw one that wasn't majoring in "general studies." At least if a recruit commits to Michigan, or to Northwestern, or even Ohio State, there's some degree of potential for them to get a good education if they want it. The coach is committing to give them a scholarship for the years it takes for them to earn their degree and isn't going to take it from them just because the next best thing comes along. I understand that some kids don't want to go to the toughest academic school around. That's perfectly understandable. Stanford and Notre Dame are not for everyone. However, I would not hire an LSU general studies major to pump my gas. The NFL isn't a sure thing, and even if it were, the ultimate bankruptcy rate of NFL players is astounding. I get that LSU is winning right now. I understand that they have achieved this without a world beater at QB, and that Kiel has strong potential to be just such a world beater. But as they say, it's not a four year decision, it's a forty. And this is a decision I do not get.

And as far as an ND or Vandy degree being more valuable than an LSU degree I offer you this:

30 year Football player ROI:

2. Notre Dame $1,575,183
5. Vanderbilt $1,028,732
28. LSU $628,705

This seems more like a case of lies, damned lies and statistics.

After GK makes about $150 mil in the NFL he can go to Harvard, Yale or Stanford - law school, med school or where ever he wants.

I would make the money and then work on my education like another LSU QB from Indiana did.
He has the rest of his life to educate himself, but only a few short years to play FB.

You really have to throw the "quality of the degree" argument out the window.

Using this

LINK

and pulling out only football schools and adjusting the GSR (Graduation Success Rate) to football players only (actually turns out to be more favorable for ND, LSU, and Vandy), you get this:

Barring injuries and that he lives up to the expectation of course.

I think their numbers are off not a little, but a lot.

I did some quick math and they are showing many colleges worth less than the average worker makes a year. And ND degree is only worth 385k more than the average worker over 30 years.

For a moment there I thought you had really posted a valid and verified source and it turns out that the survey is based on PayScale

An online site that doesn't verify any of the following
-school
-degree
-company/workplace
-job title/position
-salary

I can't believe that
1. Bloomberg/Businessweek is basing surveys on online website feedback.
2. The Frightened Irish are reduced to this - using PayScale.com to justify why recruits should go play for ND.
