H&R Block Commercial

This commercial is pissing me off. It is being shown during the bowl games tonight, so if you haven't seen it I am sure you will soon.

Just a bunch of people on stage talking about how happy they are that the government sent them a check for so much money. Morons!

Damn disinformation.

That's your money. The feds have just been holding it for you. Don't be happy they are giving a little back. That's like being happy that your roommate left you the crust after he ate all the pizza you paid for.

Flat tax. Why do we need to buy software to do a tax return? Or pay a third party.

But, but who could be more free-enterprise than H&R Block? Are you a commie or something?

Not really angry at H&R Block. The commercial just illustrates how most people in this country view their tax return. They view it as a gift from the government. A bonus.

They don't view it for what it really is, a product of an inefficient tax system. Why should I get happy for the feds giving me back the money they took from me...

:sigh:

<-------------Independent contractor about to be forcefully violated by the Feds...

Why is marketing a "part of business"?

Think of the origination of the business model. When was marketing invented?

OPs management, inventory control, efficient quality production, labor management, asset management, etc,etc,etc...all significant in the concept of business with little to no "evil" attached...it's marketing that should be outlawed or SEVERELY LIMITED IMO.

It turns out prostitution isn't the oldest profession, it was marketing.

how so? Guy rolls his cart down to the city and sells it.

Unless he was yelling that his corn cures cancer and is bestest most wonderful corn in the whole wide world......weren't the snake oil salesmen circa 1700?

The printing press wasn't invented until like 1500's...what was marketing before?

Outlaw marketing?

Clearly you don't know much about business.

Marketing accomplishes nothing more than making one business gain over another.

So you think the public won't spend money without commercials?

If people spend money, will businesses fail? Marketing accomplishes nothing for the overall good, it just allows for a business to artificially inflate its perceived worth and value. People will spend the same, they'll get more for their dollars, and pretty much everyone will be happier.

Explain why it wouldn't.

While marketing does tend to inflate the price of comparable products, it does serve a purpose.

Marketing/Advertising allows a means for the general public to be made aware of new products. Not only does it promote new products, it also serves to educate the public on the benefits and features of existing products.

Without advertising, people would need to try every product or depend on word of mouth to determine which product best meets their needs.

- how did he decide on the product he was going to sell?
- how did he decide what price to sell it for?
- what benefits did it provide that other products didn't?
- what was the name of the product?
- how was it packaged?
- what did the cart look like?
- how did the guy dress?
- how did he choose the spot he parked the cart?
- what route did he take to get there?
- did he make sure the cart didn't squeak too bad?
- did he offer a discount for return customers?
- did he have flyers to give customers so that they could tell their friends about the product?
- did he sit while tending the cart, or walk around on the sidewalk mingling with the crowd?
- did he offer a "money-back guarantee"?
- did he post signs around town advising the public when and where the cart would be?
- how did he decide how early to roll the cart out and when to quit for the day?
- did he asked any questions to customers about how he could make the product better?
- how did he respond when another cart showed up beside him?

Welcome to Marketing...

The whole industry is to defraud, yet we "need" it?

Marketing is just "selling".

Would you outlaw salesmen making a pitch as well? If there were not TV, there would be newspapers with ads, if there were no ads, there would be salesmen or store owners "marketing" new products to you that you may not have even known existed.

Lying is already outlawed. People are just stupid and frivolous.

Without marketing, how does a buyer find your product?

The best product in the world is useless if no one knows about it.

you'd have us outlawing yellow page ads.
