This was the 5th year of me owning Season Tickets. I had just sat thru the Hallman "era" (turrible) and this was Dinardo's 1st year. It had been 7 years since LSU had last been to a Bowl Game. The excitement in Tiger Town was rabid. We made a multi-car Caravan to Shreveport drinking the entire way and Beer was sold in the Stadium (use you imagination). Nick Saban (who??) was the opposing coach. Faulk, Kennison & Northern.........

It was dubbed the "Bring Back the Magic" season and pretty much delivered, except we really didn't know what real "Magic" was...........

I was there. It was cold.MSU was not without talent; Flozell Adams, Mucin Muhammed, and Tony Banks all played at the next level, along with a couple more. The infamous Saban turtleneck made it's first appearance in Louisiana. Eddie Kennison ran back a punt or KO, don't remember which.

My son went to Michigan State Football camp the next spring and Nick was not too happy when all he had to wear was LSU attire (really was all we owned). Still have a priceless picture of him with Nick. Nick insisted that he put on a camp T-shirt prior to the pic.

At the ripe "old" age of 9, I was in attendance. Frigid game but I fell in love with the Tigers that season and that game and haven't looked back since!

ETA: '97 Indy Bowl was such an awesome game...

I didn't know Satan wore glasses back then, but that wasn't a good look by him.

I was there also! Cold, but not as bad as the LSU-Notre Dame Indy Bowl with the freezing rain a few years later.

Best of the bunch for MSU was Derrick Mason, who still plays pro. Both Kennison and Mason ran KO back for td's. Seems like they were back to back runs.

Those returns were back to back

Tomorrow is anniversary of Indy win against notre dame

My dad and I went as my birthday present

Because of that memory, a cram helmet from that game would be my prized LSU possession.....surpassing my 2003 team signed helmet

This....and I (everybody) was VERY DRUNK!!!!

I just thought this would be a good topic, esp for those newer fans who prolly could not grasp where this program was not long ago.

Dinardo convincing Faulk to come to LSU was HUGE!! It started the best state players staying home again.

Outstanding topic. It's makes recent history all the more enjoyable for those of us old enough to have endured the dark days.

Dinardo had seen first hand when he played at ND, what an awesome place Tiger Stadium could be. His statement about the "magic", touched a lot of people, including recruits.

and I thought that all you could do is cook...

Thanks for posting that video. I was living overseas at that time and didn't see the game. That team was loaded with some talent.

Yeah I got into a huge argument with an OU fan recently who accused me of being a bandwagon LSU fan since I didn't graduate from LSU. I informed him that when I unwaveringly began to pull for LSU in the mid-90's, a 7-4-1 season with a trip to the Indy Bowl felt like the greatest accomplishment ever

what a season that was. we shut out Arky even though they won the west.

pet peeve of mine is the NCAA not counting bowl stats in season totals until about 10 years ago. because if you tack on Faulk's Indy Bowl numbers, he'd have 1000 yds for his freshman yr, and 4 straight 1000 yd seasons for his career.

and the next year, LSU played Clemson in the Peach Bowl. We thought we were on our way then..........

This was to be clarified by Saban in 2003. How ironic...

I was there ... and at the Peach Bowl the next year.

Indy Bowl was f'ing freezing and yes, they sold beer. THAT was a fun time with many friends that we traveled with.

My husband was a grad student at LSU at the time ... camped out for tickets. Called a buddy to go with him ... buddy's wife was POd as she'd JUST talked him OUT of going at all!

Yeah okietiger, it's tough being a Tiger in Oklahoma. Someone recently stole my LSU flag out of my yard--the day after the BCS announcement.

The 1995 Indy Bowl was my first LSU game. I was 13. My grandparents were season tickets and promised to take me when I got older, and so I had waited 13 years for that game. I still remember how electric the crowd was, freezing my tail off, the tailgating at the fairgrounds in Shreveport... One of my fondest childhood memories.
