Does anyone know if the team has ever practiced the option with Blue?

He has some extra speed and I think would do well against Bama if he can run the option.

You'd think Shep would also be good at the option with his speed, but he's never seemed to "get" it.

Oh, and I don't spend all my time checking every post on every thread, so if this has already been mentioned, well...too bad!

Pretty much anyone will do well in the option

I honestly think we won't run the option must since we think bama will be practicing for the option all the time off but who knows

Not true. Some guys just don't do it well.

I think we will. It gives another dimension to the offense, especially if we aren't getting much from the regular running game. LSU's option game isn't that great, but it makes Bama's D have to account for one more thing.

I'm also very interested in seeing what Hilliard can in the power run game. If we can have at least decent success alternating between the power run and the option, then I like our chances. That would also make passing the ball easier, or I should say, less difficult.

Use Ford too. I want him to get the TD without stepping on the line this time.

Handling the pitch toss is not everyone's forte. It could be a matter of who consistently makes the catch and does something with it at practice. Blue just may not be as sure handed with it?

You seem to forget the QB has to be able to know when to make the pitch for it to work . Nothing to do with speed or talent . The option is really a streached out run like the ole wishbone . You have to be able to pass to open the run . Little 5 to 10 yard passes not the hail mary pass , that flys over thehead of the receiver or hits the turf in front of the receiver.

No, no, no! Any back can catch the pitch. They use Ford because he has the best 15 yard burst. ReWatch the Bama game for evidence. Several times, when JJ pitched to Ford, Bama's inside backer was diving for Ford's knees or was within a yard of cutting off the upfield lane. The speed of Ford and JJ are crucial on that play. The only other back we could use without giving up that speed is maybe Blue.

And to another poster, you don't use Shepard because you'd tip the play. Now, maybe off motion....

Blue handled JJ's worst pitch EVER last yr vs. Vandy. he gets to mishandle 10 pitches for that alone.

seriously, I've seen all 4 of our primary RBs handle speed option pitches, I think Ford gets the nod most times because of his shiftiness along the sidelines. occasional out of bounds runs notwithstanding.
